I think I’ve eaten undercooked chicken

Am I going to be sorry?

DP put some chicken legs inthe barbecue And then finished in the oven. When I looked at my plate there was blood on it but when I opened the chicken, it looked cooked. I ate a chicken leg but realised next to the bone was bloody too.

This was about two hours ago and I’m feeling a bit hot and nauseous. Is this going to be my first experience of food poisoning??

If it's food poisoning, at best it'll be the shits, at worst it'll be coming out both ends, at the same time.

Either way, you'll have a guts ache. But you'll survive it.

The types of food poisoning you might get from chicken take at least 12 hours to start, so I think the nausea is probably just anxiety.

Chicken on the bone can also release red fluid even once fully cooked.

You have to ingest a certain quantity of bacteria to get ill, which is why people don't usually get ill after eating just a mouthful of undercooked chicken. If it looked cooked, it probably was, at least enough to lessen the chances of you getting ill.

I’m feeling decidedly ropey but I’m crossing my fingers that it’s just me overthinking it!

I'm pretty sure you can find 'bloody bits' even in cooked chicken, especially on the bone
You'll probably be fine. Anxiety can make me feel terrible.

Yeah cooked chicken can still have bloody bits. If the flesh part was white you should be fine.
