My job is really distressing me

Hi all.

My MH has taken an absolute nosedive. I work in a school and despite it being part time the stress I’m under is ridiculous. Among the problems are:

  • massive short staffing issues
  • teachers and TAs not being where they are supposed to be, messing up the duty rota and not being there to care for vulnerable children
  • heavy lifting which hurts my shoulders
  • constant emails flying around outside of work hours
  • constantly changing rotas that make no sense
  • rude staff

It is all on my mind CONSTANTLY and I’m so sick of it. I’ve appplied for some other jobs and praying they are a way out of this misery.

I know people have worse problems in life than this. This is just what I’m dealing with right now and I feel so bleak and empty, stressed and depressed.

Sorry you're feeling this way OP. I feel the same, I'm about to return to my current job in June after maternity leave but dreading it - I've applied for many other things and thankfully I have an interview for one soon. I hope you hear back from some of the jobs you have applied for and wish you well in finding another position that will help your mental health Thanks

@dillydallydollydaydream7 I’m so sorry you’re in the same boat. It really sucks and makes life miserable doesn’t it? I hope you find a way out soon!

Thanks @AlPacino Thanks funnily enough I had an interview earlier this week and was offered the job! Less money but a 10 min journey to work rather than 50 min and more time with my kids so I'm so pleased. Hope you find something else soon!

Hello @AlPacino I'm feeling stressed about work too. It is awful how it occupies your mind all the time. I wake up in the middle of the night rehashing work issues. I think getting another job is the only option. Life is too short to put up with shit like this.

Meanwhile every time you start thinking about it, try shutting down that voice with a positive thought eg "I have a lot of skills and will find another job" xx

I really hope stress at work will be seen as a public health/industrial health issue in the future. I think it is bonkers that in the 21st century work is so miserable and damaging for individuals. I left a job because I felt like I'd run a marathon at the end of everyday and it still wasn't good enough. Crazy! And I am a solid worker without other stresses in my life. The only way to cope is not to care but that's not ok. Hope you fund a way out to something better .
