People "vibrating at different levels"

Someone I know is always going on about people vibrating at different frequencies. She uses world like Hertz and electromagnetic fields and but she also likes crystals and stuff. Admittedly I didn't pay much attention to science in school but this sounds made up? I mean I'm aware that matter vibrates on a molecular level but she's says you get hunches about people based on their vibration and that sort of thing. Anyone who did a science degree able to help me out? I'm not even sure what words to Google!

I have a BSc so have a science degree.

It is, however, in tourism. Despite this even I can tell you the whole vibration thing is a load of old tosh.

Gingernaut · 20/03/2021 16:56

People who talk about vibrational levels are talking out of their arses.

Yes. All molecular matter vibrates, due to atomic activity.

There is no Vibration of God, we can't consciously raise our 'vibrational states' and nothing these snake oil peddlars are selling will help us raise our vibrational game.

This is the least annoying shite I can find and it has me fuming.

I did think that was probably the case but pretty ignorant outside my own field (which is not science but does involve research methods) and I didn't want to immediately dismiss what she was saying as tosh without researching it purely based on the crystal thing (to be clear, I don't think crystals do anything!). I literally didn't know what to Google though....all I could find was studies about hearing and ads for those vibration plates my mum used in the 90s because they thought it made them lose weight Grin

Ever been in a room where "you could cut the atmosphere with a knife?"

Hangingover · 21/03/2021 10:13

Yes I think that's the sort of thing she meant but did really elaborate!

This is not a theory based on actual science. It has just appropriated science words, like “quantum” dishwasher tablets.

NotDavidTennant · 21/03/2021 10:16

This is just a lot of woo rubbish.

Hangingover · 21/03/2021 15:54

Thanks, that's what I thought. How I arrange my face when she goes on about it is another matter Grin

Just because the language she uses isn't accurate, doesn't mean there isn't some truth in her experiences.

I've a friend who sees musical notes in colour and uses it to tell and tweak pitch. Another has perfect pitch and can instruct you to sharpen up a bit.

Your friend is experiencing something about people and relationships and using a particular language to express it. It's like describing someone as warm and someone else as cool, frosty or fiery.

Just words.

Hangingover · 21/03/2021 16:26

I've not doubt she gets "feelings" about people and things as we all do. But she states things like "coffee is 50hertz higher than people" like they're fact and I just go "hmmm interesting" Grin

They mean oscillating.

It's the little purple people who live in radiators that REALLY run the world.

This should help:

The energy and vibrations we emit is actually a highly debated and always ongoing scientific study.
We have no scientific proof there’s a soul - so do you think we don’t have one?

Of course she’s not talking out of her arse. Everything has an energy field, and some people are extra sensitive to it. It’s all very interesting if you look into it.

Neuroscience graduate here. I also ‘see’ people and objects as different colours similar to what @picklemewalnuts was talking about in the music thing, so I might be biased Grin
