I had a miscarriage and I developed sepsis from retained products. Then they informed me it was a molar pregnancy so I feel like absolute shit. I'm home now continuing my antibiotics orally instead of IV.

I'm on 2 different types of antibiotics, metronidazole and doxycycline and tonight I have started symptoms of a UTI!

How??! I feel like absolute shite

I am sorry for your loss Flowers I got terrible thrush the last time I took antibiotics, they can mess with your system. If it doesn't improve by tomorrow I would ring the doctor and check. Flowers

Oodilallygolly · 20/03/2021 00:55

Oh you poor thing OP, I’m so sorry you’ve been going through it recently! Flowers
It could be that the UTI bacteria is resistant to the antibiotics you’re taking but I’d certainly speak to the GP and ask for them to check for an infection

Cagedbirdsinging · 20/03/2021 01:03

Flowers @chonkyy .
Phone your Gp if it continues to worsen or fails to improve by morning . Take your temperature and pulse regularly . Drink LOADS of clear fluids so you pee copiously , even if it burns . (Cranberry juice is good) . Bio-live yoghurt to counteract the comensal-killing antibiotics .
I hope you feel better soon .

chonkyy · 20/03/2021 01:31

I'm going to call ooh tomorrow morning for sure. I felt so unwell with the sepsis I do not want to get that sick again.

I'm sure you know this already OP but don't let anything with even a smidge of alcohol in it pass your lips whilst taking metronidazole. Hope you recover soon, what an awful time you are having.

Feelingconfusedtonight · 20/03/2021 02:16

Sorry to hear about your loss and that you are feeling so unwell. 💐

As a pp stated you need to avoid alcohol for the duration of your treatment and for 48 hours thereafter. People even report problems with mouthwash which contains alcohol.
If you try and keep your fluids up that helps.

Also make sure you’ve got something in your stomach before the metronidazole as it can be brutal on your stomach(confirm on the antibiotics this is what your doctor has requested).

I am so sorry for your loss Flowers You poor thing. Sorry to read of all your pain and I hope you feel better very soon.

I got pelvic sepsis via an infection from a replacement coil 3 years ago and was on antibiotics for weeks ( same as yours). I also developed Interstitial Cystitis. This is not like the usual cystitis as it’s an inflammatory response, but is similar in symptoms.

My consultant gynaecologist recommended a product to me: -

‘Waterfall d Mannose’.

You can buy it in tablet and powered form. If supports bladder health naturally. It is vegan and gluten free.

I found it very helpful for my IC, I used it to support my healing. I still get flare ups, so take it regularly to help keep my bladder functioning well. It’s not a cure but it does help to calm things down.

You can buy it online, Amazon sell it as do other retailers. The powered form is a little cheaper overall I think.

I hope that helps. Make sure you stay very well hydrated. Wishing you the very best Smile.

Sorry for your loss. When I was once on a cocktail of meds I had antibiotic related thrush that I mistook for a UTI because the symptoms were different due to what I was taking the meds for.

Cagedbirdsinging · 20/03/2021 10:55

Good morning , @chonkyy .
How are you feeling ?

Aracanum · 20/03/2021 11:15

That's fucking rotten, OP. I'm sorry for your loss and hope you recover soon.

DontWannaBeObamasElf · 20/03/2021 11:50

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Have you started your follow-up monitoring?

chonkyy · 20/03/2021 12:05

I’m so sorry OP.

I don’t know if a probiotic prssary might help - I used this when on high dose antibiotics. Is standard to prescribe them in europe but british doctors are too prude embarrassed to discuss pessaries 🙄

Can get on amazon.
