Hello, I need advice on how to make a complaint against one of the GP’s at my surgery.
I suffer with a chronic health condition have a took various antibiotics for 12 weeks in a row. Sometimes I feel slightly better but they often don’t seem to work.
Today I requested a call from the GP as after 3 days on my current antibiotics I still felt really unwell.
Well I was shouted at asked why I was calling the surgery as they had done all they can for me but the biggest shock came after the GP said ‘what the fuck do you want me to do?’ After that I immediately ended the call as to not get into an argument.
Who would you make a complaint to?
As it happens my family was all sat in the living room and had heard her shouting and then swearing at me.
For abit of background I get passed between GP, A&E and then the consultant which is hard to manage as no one wants to take responsibility and help me. A&E and the consultant say it’s the GP’s duty to navigate/escalate the need for better treatment.

Was also told in no certain terms that I should call 111 and ask for help with my physical medical issue as they’d bounce it back to the GP

Wow that's awful. I'd make a complaint to the GMC and the health board. There's no way the doctor was acting professionally by swearing at you, so that needs to be dealt with at a higher level.

Can you change to another practice? Clearly this one is not to be trusted.

If she didn't immediately call back with a sincere apology then I'd report her.

Thank you for replying.
Does anyone know if doctors calls are recorded?
Will definitely be changing practices but my other local practice isn’t taking any new patients on yet due to covid.

The calls probably aren't recorded. Legally I think they'd need to play a disclaimer telling you about the recording.

The other surgery may be able to take you on if you explain why it's so necessary for you to move. Or the health board can make them take you on if you speak to them about it. Don't wait for your official complaint to be answered though- put that in writing and also phone them to request an urgent move.
