I know I know, if something seems too good to be true it probably is. Saw an advert for gym gear on Instagram, clicked on link and saw there was an offer 2 leggings for £24. So I fill in my details and order a few bits. I’ve had an email saying I’m now a VIP member and will be charged £49 per month unless I buy from them. I can’t afford this! Please has anyone cancelled this and can tell me I’ll be able to get through to them Monday morning to cancel?!! It was in the tiniest tiniest writing about the membership, so sneaky.
Please someone reassure me I’ll easily be able to cancel this. Sad

There is a 14 day cooling off period with everything bought online?

RunningFromInsanity · 19/03/2021 20:38

You can skip a month and it won’t take the money.

SHOP OR 'SKIP THE MONTH'
The choice to shop is always yours! Shop or log into your account to 'Skip the Month' by the 5th of each month and you won’t be charged.
VIP MEMBER CREDITS
If you don't shop or 'Skip the Month' by the 5th, your credit card will be charged £49 on the 6th until you cancel. That charge can be used as a credit to spend or save.
CANCEL ANYTIME
You can cancel your VIP Membership at any time by calling our Member Services Team on 020 36953 831

I’m going to try ringing tomorrow and just cancelling the whole thing. Think I should just stick with sports direct in future!

It’s not sneaky, they do make it quite clear on those website, but it’s really easy to cancel through their chat. They’ll try to keep you but just say that you definitely want to cancel (then do the same again with another email address 😉).

Partyshoes · 19/03/2021 20:57

Have you cancelled with them then? How much of a hard sell am I in for 😬?
I assume the order will have to be cancelled along with the membership?

Minikievs · 19/03/2021 21:03

I signed up for it about a year ago. Got some nice stuff.
I set a reminder in my phone to skip every month and I've no lever been charged the £49.
It's not a scam. It's clearly marked that you sign up but can skip.
I think to cancel you have up phone and speak to them. I can't be arsed to do that so I just skip every month 🤷🏼‍♀️

Minikievs · 19/03/2021 21:03

I've *never been charged

Smartiepants79 · 19/03/2021 21:04

I fell for this and was very pissed off when I realised.
I believe you can use their chat facility to cancel also.
I don’t feel it was very clear on the website or while I was buying my first round of stuff.
I’m not stupid and if had been that obvious I wouldn’t have done it.
Clearly it’s on me as I didn’t read hard enough but I would not say that it’s clear at all.
I’m mostly pissed off because it is going to stop me buying from them again.
Their stuff is pretty good and I would have bought from them again ( and again) but it is massively over priced at full price so I won’t. I feel that in the long term they’ve lost out on my money.

Actsofgenerosity · 19/03/2021 21:06

Sports Direct is awful and owned by that grim bloke. Fabletics stuff looks really nice

Smartiepants79 · 19/03/2021 21:14

What has sports direct got to do with it?
The stuff is nice.
But it’s not worth the £60 for a pair of leggings that is the cost after the initial ‘suck you in’ offer.

Partyshoes · 19/03/2021 21:16

I think because I said upthread I should have stuck with sports direct.

I signed up a few weeks ago, order arrived around 5 days later, cancelled the membership online it was all straightforward tbh. You just need to go on the desktop website rather than the mobile site to cancel.

doadeer · 19/03/2021 21:19

It's easy to cancel. They might offer you a discount but just say no, takes 5 mins. I think it's very clear but I'm sorry you're feeling stressed

Partyshoes · 19/03/2021 21:23

Ok thank you. As long as they let me cancel that’s fine. I accept I haven’t read the terms and conditions properly. I clicked through Instagram and just thought vip membership was some kind of points system that lots of companies use.

RoseHarper · 19/03/2021 21:44

I got the two pairs of leggings for £24 and then just set a reminder to skip each month. The quality is excellent and I've bought from them again so imo the offer is really good.

Duckyneedsaclean · 19/03/2021 22:33

Keep the £24 leggings then cancel. I did it over the online chat.

SilverOtter · 19/03/2021 22:35

Their leggings are really good quality

activitythree · 19/03/2021 22:39

I googled fabletics and read the T&Cs for you.

Yes, it was fine you say you want to cancel, they say are you sure you want to miss out on x y z saving and you say yes and that’s it.
GreatTeaMonkey · 19/03/2021 22:52

I just ‘skip the month’ every month so don’t get charged. Really need to cancel though.

Partyshoes · 20/03/2021 07:06

Thanks all. I’ve calmed down now Grin
Will sort it today.

OP posts:
Everyday21 · 20/03/2021 07:19

Glad you've calmed down op. I cancelled over the online chat to. There was a bit of a sales pitch but easier to deal with then someone on the phone I thought.

Partyshoes · 20/03/2021 07:40

Thank you. I just panicked at the time that it was going to be one of these dodgy companies where it’s really difficult to cancel and they just give you a really hard sell (despite what the terms and conditions say)
Sounds like lots of people have managed to cancel using the chat facility so I’ll try that first.

OP posts:
Smartiepants79 · 20/03/2021 13:33

They do have a reputation for being quite difficult to cancel by phone but I think you just have to stick to your guns and just keep saying no.

FakeFruitShoot · 20/03/2021 13:35

I just cancelled on Web chat. It was fine
