Feel like there's a hair on my nose but there's no hair there. It's driving me nuts. Please tell me I'm not losing the plot.

All evening I've had a feeling like I've got a hair on my nose or like I've walked into a cobweb or something. Have washed my face, checked it in the magnified bit of the mirror and there is nothing there. Nothing.

It's driving me mad. I'm trying to ignore it but it's impossible.

Has anyone else had this?!

I get that sometimes, it's annoying. In my family it's called 'scribble nose' - because it feels like someone is gently scribbling on your nose, obvs.

kerkyra · 07/06/2022 22:29

I've been googling this and glad I found you all. Felt I was going slightly mad.
Weird sensation on the left side of the bridge of my nose, sort of like a light feather brushing it. It comes and goes all through the day for the last two days. Definitely no hair hanging down, its very odd.

ALongHardWinter · 07/06/2022 23:05

I had something similar one evening whilst watching TV a couple of weeks ago. I felt like I had a hair across my left eye. After trying repeatedly to brush it away numerous times,I looked in the mirror but could see nothing. Felt like I was going mad! Washed my face, but could still feel it. This kept on for about 3 hours, then stopped just as suddenly as it had started. As a PP said,I think it may have been a nerve.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 08/06/2022 13:57

Well I didn't feel like I had a hair wafting round my nostrils but I do now 😂

Notahandmaid · 27/06/2022 17:16

I have just found this thread by googling 'feel like I have a hair on my nose but there is nothing there'! It's been like this for a few days and it's driving me mad! I have long hair and I have clipped all my hair back from my face and I keep brushing and rubbing my nose. Any advice welcome! But reassured that I'm not the only one!

cicatrix1 · 27/06/2022 17:54

I get this alot but the back of my throat...always when im stressed.

Mbjtampa · 11/08/2022 03:23

I have the same problem. Did it ever go away for you? Such an odd sensation!

Kikikira · 21/09/2022 21:34

Yes! I am experiencing this next to my lower lip on the right side as well! It’s infuriating, and I’m only on day #2 of this horrible feeling. Nothing helps

CandiCaneLuci · 02/12/2022 03:07

I have been having this feeling for almost two months! I have literally waxed my nose, tried all kinds of creams/lotions, allergy meds, allergy creams, I even put icy hot to try to make it go away! I have actually scratched it raw because it is bothering me so much 😭 I have NO idea what to do

MariaTownsend · 08/01/2023 15:50

I have this tickle on the end of my nose... no hairs or nothing!! Iv had it about a week now but Seriously I'm going doo lally tap... what is it?

Stopclutchingpearls · 08/01/2023 15:52

Google formication basically like ants crawling on you I am 42 noticed that when I am on my period I get this feeling on my face and other parts of body like a crawling sensation very strange. They say it could be peri menopausal so who knows

SockGoddess · 08/01/2023 15:54

Yes I've had this! It's infuriating. I found I could get rid of it by taking a hayfever tablet. (But of course be careful if you're driving etc as they can make you sleepy)

Bonheurdupasse · 08/01/2023 16:03

The brain has specific areas associated with perception in the various areas of the body - roughly in the parietal lobe.
Occasionally nerves in such areas can be randomly stimulated (from "inside the brain"!) even though there's nothing actual being sensed by the body part.
The extreme example being phantom limb syndrome - when amputees "feel" sensations in their missing limb.

(Disclaimer - not a Dr, just listening to intro to psych stuff on courser.)

If I'm busy I dont seem to notice it as much, but when it comes to relaxing at night.. omg!! I'm 46 and read somewhere that women complain of this when they start menopause.. things women go through ey lol

I have this, not only feelings/taught ness of hair around my eyes face nose lips teeth and throat, but actually finding thin long curly clear strays. I also get face pain/tingling /numbness on the left of my face around 4times a day. Also watery eyes binged up nose. I also pulled a long one out of a nostril too.
Drs think it's all anxiety, which could be a factor, but not to the extent that Im actually collecting evidence of these kinky hairs that I've pulled out of my tongue. It's making me insane.also possibly choking on longer hairs. It could be nerve related I've been pleading with drs for years. Scans showed nothing, so was prescribed gabapentin in its first Uk trials.
I've skin picked for the last few years and paranoid hairs are in growing in my face.
It's got to be interlinked?
Need to hear more from other peoples horrors, drs need to understand this is not just in our heads! That hurts and could be more dangerous as you can imagine.

Oh my gosh (This is April 2023) I’ve had it for at least a couple of weeks but I’m sure more like a couple months. I’ve plucked and clipped and shaved ANY hair I could see or not see in my nose, on my nose and around my nose. LoL it’s driving me crazy! I have moderate to severe pain daily but this stupid little feeling is consuming me more than the pain is! It’s right toward the top tip on the right. It is springtime so maybe it’s associated to allergies. I’ll have to keep a mental note. But I’m thinking it must be a very light nerve twitching or feeling a very faint blood flow. I can’t imagine its hair. I’ve done everything but light my nose hair on fire.

Come to think of it I get the feeling in my big toe sometimes and it feels like I have a hair wrapped around it. Maybe it’s the same type of thing. But I do wonder why we feel it. When my toe acts up I figure my back or hips must be swollen or out of whack or something and there’s excess pressure somewhere and it’s showing up in the toe but the connection makes sense to me. Back and hip problems and arthritis etc and nerves going down into your feet. But the side of my nose? Hmm. Could it be my brain is swollen? LoL or maybe something in the neck? It’s definitely a curious thing that I’d like to solve, like a riddle. I was hoping to find something online by searching it and found this posting but I’m going to keep looking and will repost if I do find an answer!

Mare1042 · 27/04/2023 19:51

There’s no sore or sores though. For me it’s just the one spot. But that’s an interesting condition. Wow.

Maryannna · 14/11/2023 00:59

Same here, feeling like the tiniest feather or hair is slightly touching the tip of my nose. It's very annoying comes and goes thankfully doesn't last long, just started experiencing it a couple of weeks ago. It's almost like a faint pulsating feeling just like when you have a cut. I hope it will go away soon and on it's own.

Roont · 17/11/2023 01:00

I found this thread when googling same thing! I joined this site just to comment. Feels like a hair on top of nose on outside. Someone posted it could be something to do with a panic attack and I could see that being a possibility (to ight was rough!).

newnamethanks · 17/11/2023 07:18

Me too, and thank you for describing it, similar here, just on the right side of my nose, had it for months. Assume it's a tooth-related nerve thing. Dentist no help ditto doctor. Really, really annoying.

Ummayoub · 03/02/2024 19:05

Thanks everyone! It definitely drives me mad. I have had it now for more than 3 months. It's on the right side of nose. After that really weird symptom had started my chest started burning really badly and now my both breasts too. Anyone else?

Sophia44 · 15/03/2024 22:28

Yes! I am suffering with the same but it’s right below my lip on one side - going on 2 days now and it’s driving me crazy!! I keep scratching at it and there’s literally nothing there. Argh!

bnhasak · 19/05/2024 16:55

Did you ever find out what was causing it? Did it ever go away? I'm having the exact issue with lower right lip and I'm in a panic over it. Thanks!

newnamethanks · 23/05/2024 11:07

My sensation has moved up from my nose and settled for making the corner of my eye, top of nose to eyebrow, itch. Really itch. So itchy it wakes me up about 4am. Grr. It's not an itch relieved by scratching. Very odd. Taking an antihistamine at bedtime has reduced its intensity and a splodge of antihistamine ointment.
