How to bounce back (mostly at work)

Background a HUGE amount of personal stress now coming to end. During pandemic there have been several senior job restructures. I have performed to good standard over past year but definitely can see people jostling for positions and - IMO - taking advantage of when I’ve been out/not as dynamic as I should have been. My immediate boss is not a good one. Very narcissistic and has favourites but I have a good relationship with her peers/seniors.

I guess question is how to kickstart my career given above? I don’t want to be sidelined anymore due to personal circumstance meaning haven’t excelled or due to favouritism. I want to come out fighting - in a good way. Any ideas?

I am in the same situation as you and tbh I've started looking for a new job. I'm being selective in what I apply for but I need to get out of where I am.

Good luck bonfire. I’ve thought about leaving but going to try one last push to raise me above politics I think

Is there any possibility you could take a secondment or move into a different role internally?

Failing that, I think you have two options; stick it out and keep contact with your manager minimal and professional while doing your job excellently; or leave and find something else.

I sympathise, restructures are so draining to go through, especially when you feel unsupported by your manager.
