Reference for first time renter

My dd22 is newly qualified as a mental health nurse. She has been living at home during university but is now planning to move out with a friend who is the same as her; i.e nurse just moving out of home. It’s nearly 30 years since I last rented. How do you get a landlord reference for your first rental? It’s a very competitive market where we are and she’s worried she’ll find it very difficult to get a property without a rental history. She has worked part time jobs since she was 17. She always saves a proportion of her wages and was able to get an unsecured car loan from the bank due to her credit history so she’s very sensible and will be an excellent tenant.

Landlord here - reference from a past landlord not too big an issue . Big things are affordability, non smoker and no pets.

There is a rental property shortage which is encouraging crap landlords. She needs to read the how to rent guide and make sure she knows her rights. Don't rent a dump, it won't improve.

When I first rented a property I asked my former boss for a character reference so maybe that's an option? Generally it doesn't matter as much as the credit/affordability check though. If she has a guarantor that might be helpful but isn't essential.

I left my ex 3 years ago and had to rent. As it was my first rental, my boss wrote me a reference, which was accepted. Might be an option for you.
