I feeling the world is passing me by.

I don't have broadband at home. Have 100mb on my phone which is plentt.

Never had Netflix or anything other than the free view that came with my TV.

Never used zoom, facetime, never had a video chat with anybody. Never used WhatsApp, Snapchat, twitter, Instagram etc. I'm on Facebook but purely for a couple of groups I use and buy/sell groups. Never wrote anything on newsfeed and haven't any friends on there.

Never used deliveroo etc. Only ever have chip shops, McDonald's or kfc and I will go and get myself. Never had a Chinese, Indian or any other take away other than the above 3. Never eaten or drank nandos, costa, Starbucks etc. Actually I don't drink tea or coffee anyway.

Never bought anything off amazon or etsy. Use ebay though.

Am I the only one??

I'm 33 not 93.

That is very surprising to me, I’m a similar age and honestly can’t imagine life without technology (whether or not that’s a good thing is debatable). Where do you live? How do you keep in touch with friends? What job do you do that hasn’t required any use of communication technology? How have you managed during lockdown without any of this?

smallandimperfectlyformed · 17/03/2021 17:28

I would say you are quite unusual but as long as you are happy it's no problem. I have done most of those things that you list but no judgement on anyone who hasn't/doesn't want to. I am 39

TedMullins · 17/03/2021 17:29

Also, Nando’s and Starbucks really aren’t that special so you’re not missing out but aren’t you curious about things you haven’t experienced?

DragonMamma · 17/03/2021 17:30

I’m a few years older than you and find this really strange, if I’m honest. My mum is well in to her 50s and uses all of these on a regular basis.

Even my 95 grandad has WhatsApp and FaceTimes us off his smartphone! (Genuinely!)

I don't have any friends. I have adhd and find it hard to make friends. I am an unemployed at the moment but previously was a carer in a care home. No technology required there!

Some things really make life easier though.

Instead of sitting in the massive Macdonalds drive through queue I go straight to a parking bay and they bring it too me.

Amazon and Deliveroo make sure it it easy to use them. Very useful when I am travelling for work.

itstiktok · 17/03/2021 17:33

I've never used Deliveroo either. They don't deliver round here. And we are quite a big town!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 17/03/2021 17:33

None of those are compulsory. If you don't want to use them, it doesn't affect anyone else.

I’m sorry to hear that, that sounds tough. The internet can be a good way to make connections though - there are Facebook groups for activities and interests in the local area or the app Meetup, where you can find events you’re interested in. I’m sure there will be groups for neurodiverse people too. Maybe there isn’t much on while in lockdown but hopefully when things open up you might be able to find a job or a group locally? If you want to, of course. You write coherently on here and seem perfectly nice so I’m sure there are people out there you’d get on with who may feel similar to you.
Zzzzribbetzzzz · 17/03/2021 17:53

I wouldn’t worry about it. In many ways life was much more straightforward without these things, being attached to a screen placing orders is in reality a bit odd compared to walking somewhere and having a human interaction. I fear for my kids growing up in this internet world. But I do use all these things regularly myself. If
You’ve experienced Facebook then you have an idea of what you are missing out on - nothing!!!

Decades ago my parents lived on a different continent and even phoning them was problematic. I've been shaking my head, over the past year, pitifully wishing we'd had Zoom and FaceTime back then ...

And I don't think I could have survived this last year without being able to speak to family members on screen at will.

But I'm pretty sure I've never had any contact with KFC, either virtually or in person!

insancerre · 17/03/2021 18:08

I’ve never FaceTimed anyone or used teams
I’ve used zoom but as a dial in guest on the phone
