Saw a thread a while ago about doing kind things for others and it backfiring.
So thought I'd try one where people have done nice or kind things for you. Would be good to hear some good news stories for a change.
I'll start.
One time I was taking a flight to visit my parents with my 3 dc, aged 4, 3 and 1. Dp dropped us at airport early morning and then drove the 2 hours back home.
Fast forward to when the plan should have been boarding and it had been cancelled due to bad weather. I had no mobile phone on me, hardly any euros (was travelling to UK, so did have some pounds).
We were given a choice of changing to a next day flight, which wasn't an option for me as was travelling back for a particular family event happening the next morning, or we could transfer to another flight departing from another airport. I choose to depart from another airport, thinking they would transport us there. They didn't. And DP could not get back to collect us (not that I was able to ring him anyway)
However, a kind man had also changed his flight and said he saw me with the dc looking totally stressed and about to cry and offered me the use of his phone and also a lift to the other airport as he had his car with him.
On arrival at other airport, a tiny airport, it turns out the flight departing was in another 7 hours. I had no proper food for the dc, there was no cafe or shop, only a vending machine which I had no change for and no staff could provide me with change. I was stuck there with 2 big suitcases, a buggy and 3 small dc.
Other people from the original flight then started arriving. And it was amazing how everyone just started chatting and helping each other out. I was the only one there with dc. Some lovely ladies read stories to my 3 and 4 year olds, people watched the dc and cases when I or one of them needed the toilet so we didn't all have to trapse in there. Someone shared food they had around and someone bought chocolate and water from the vending machine for my dc. Everyone was so amazing, and the dc didn't grumble or moan once.
I will never forget that day. It could have been so stressful but everyone just was so nice. One of the ladies even carried my 3 year old onto the plane, as it does get quite tricky holding the hands of 2 small dc while also carrying a baby and a changing bag.
