May I ask for help with a real life math problem?

I am trying to work out what I owe in a situation and although it’s a minor matter I need to get this right.

I rent a space, let’s say a storage barn for the sake of anonymity and it costs me £330 per month. The cost of renting that space changes to £310 per month from 1st April.

I pay monthly in advance on the 16th of every month and am fully paid up, no arrears.

I have given notice (1 month as per contract) of my vacation of this space and this notice was given on 13th March - 3 days ahead of my usual payment date of the 16th - and I will be leaving on or just before the 13th April.

On 16th March I paid til the end of the month at the old rate (15 days at £10.85 per day totalling £163.00) and on 1st April payment for the reminder of my stay will be due at the new rate of £10.20 per day).

I calculate that on 1st April I will need to pay £102.00 but is this correct?

Have you checked your contract, when you pay on the 16th does that definitely cover you for the period 16th Mar to 15th April for example? 13 days in April at £10.20 = £132.60

Why are you only banning on paying g u til the 10 April, if you are staying til the 13th?

I agree with the rest of the numbers assuming you pay on calculates on average months, and the owner wants paying a true daily rate. It could be pennies out if they go by the number of days in the months rather than annual averages.

Okay so the bit that’s tripping me up is I think that because my notice was given 3 days ahead of the 16th (making it less neat than day 1 being the 16th, payment date being the 16th, notice given on the 16th and leave date being the 16th) I will have overpaid by 3 days if I pay £330 from 16th March right up to to the 16th April. if it weren’t for the change in monthly rate, I’d just calculate the original daily rate of £10.85 multiplied by the number of days between 16th March and 13th April. I think I need to pay the new rate for 13 days from 1st April til 13th but partner thinks I deduct the 3 days (to take account of fact I gave notice on 13th NOT the 16th) from this meaning Ibapy from 1st of April til the 10th.

My brain is now steaming.

So you are paid up to end of March. You need to pay £132.60 to cover you for the 13 days to 13th April.

Ask them for an invoice.
