Faecal impacation

My 4 year old has always had ‘runny’ poos, I took him to the doctor in January 2020 because it didn’t seem right, they took stool samples said everything was fine. I took him again in November 2020 for soiling and they referred him to paediatrics. It turns out he had partial blockages in 2 parts of his colon. We done a disimpacation regime (opposite to what I’ve read, we started high on 12 sachets and reduced the dose to 2 for maintenance) and a follow up X-ray 5 weeks later where the problem is now much worse. His full colon is impacted and he has a 6.5cm width poo ‘stuck’ in his rectum. We’re now back on the disimpacation regime and the doctor wants to get community nurses involved. My DS has no stomach pain, and very regular ‘overflow’ I’m just worried as to what to expect next. Has anyone else been in this position?

Have you been onto the Eric website. It deals with this problem and there will be loads of others on therefore with the same situation.

Possibility of your son requiring a small op to remove what is there and widen the passage.

Poor lad, I hope he's better soon.

Have they mentioned hirschsprung disease ?

@deste I’ve been on it a few times looking for information, but a lot of what I’ve read goes back to idiopathic constipation, difficulty passing stools and being scared to go to the toilet, when we’ve never had this problem, we we’re only referred because our GP suspected a food allergy, constipation wasn’t mentioned until our hospital appointment x

They haven’t mentioned anything as of yet, I have read a bit on hirschprung, but the overflow and impacation is his only symptom, he’s growing exactly where he should be.
Because I thought things were improving, I had no questions prepared for when the paediatrician rang, I have rang back to speak to him, but I haven’t heard back yet but I’m guessing with a busy schedule a few questions from a parent aren’t going to be his main concern which I totally understand x

@Northeastmamxoxo hey, did you ever get a diagnosis? My son is nearly 6 months. Struggles for days to pooo, when he finally does it’s soft and not a consistency that would point to constipation. He also has a lot of wind and struggles to pass this also.

We started solids and instead of popping once a day like he used to its decreased. So 3 days no poop, pooped on 4th day now no poop again. What is your opinion on this?

I hope your son is doing better.
