Cancelled Flight, Only available flight is on 16May - what would you do?

I booked a flight for the 20 May when Boris announced that flights could resume on the 17th May , however Easyjet have cancelled the flight, and to other regional airports too - flights to the Capital City are available ( a long way from my destination and hugely expensive too) There is a flight available on the 16th May - would you risk it and take this flight, or wait until 1 June and go then?

Well some context would help.

Why are you flying?

To be honest I wouldn't be entirely unsurprised if there isn't some slippage in the not before 17 May relaxation step.

But whichever way, 16th May is before 17 May, so won't it still be illegal to go abroad for non essential purposes before that date?

Booper42 · 16/03/2021 16:09

Activitythree we are going out there to do some essential repairs on our property.

Yes, it will be illegal which my big dilemma, its the day before the restrictions are lifted but the only flight is on the 16th May.

We will have had both vaccines by May.

It's one of those where 'it depends' and you should expect uncertainty right up to the time of the flight.

The 17th May relaxation may slip. There might be restrictions in wherever you are going, that might mean you can't go, or have to quarantine when you return, if this is an issue. You have to fill in a form now to explain why your journey is essential, so you probably want to look into that.

The airline may cancel the flight on the 16th anyway. This could depend on which airline you are using. Jet2 for example, are mostly holiday flights to holiday destinations and have been cautious and cancelling all their flights in batches. Other airlines that attract business passengers may actually operate some flights.

I don't really understand your dilemma tbh, just wait until 1st June.

tinierclanger · 16/03/2021 17:02

If he had announced restrictions were being lifted on the 30th May, presumably you wouldn’t have booked for the 17th May? You’d have booked for the 1st June. So just reschedule to the date that you can legally go.

You are assuming the country you are visiting will accept you once you arrive.

It's 2 months away so I don't think you can deme them essential. Essential would be repairs that can't wait IMO.
