Stuck for Birthday Presents....

OohImBlindedByTheLights · 16/03/2021 10:45

It's my DSDs birthday next Thursday and she will be 13. We are totally stuck on what to get her. We will be doing up her bedroom next weekend (totally redecorated) and her mum and my DH have went 50:50 on a new iPad for her as her current one is 5 years old and very slow, so we felt the upgrade was long overdue.

For Christmas she asked for Airpods which she got and she got some really nice trainers, hoodies etc. At our house she does have all that she needs and has her share of games on DH's playstation.

We have asked her several times what she would like, but she just says nothing. We asked if she would prefer to have the money instead but she said no as she wouldn't know what to buy and wants to have something to open on her birthday.

She has no idea about the pending changes for her bedroom or the iPad that will be opened at her mums (but brought between houses), but does anyone have any idea on what we could get her? Not wanting to spend loads as we have already spent a fortune on her room and going half on the iPad.

She's got plenty of make up, plenty of clothes that she's picked herself (right into her sporty brand hoodies etc which she has). Has plenty of perfume and bath things. Has plenty of lego which she hardly plays with now though :(

What are your tweens/early teenage kids into these days apart from playing Roblox and Among Us on the iPad? lol!

Mine is almost 13 and is obsessed with plushies (that's cuddly toys in normal speak Grin) including suddenly being into Build a Bear again !! Maybe a fancy bear to go with the new room? Little birthday t-shirt for the bear to wear? Or a Among Us plushie?
(You can order online)

If she's getting an ipad, she already has something to open, and if she's getting an ipad, her room redone, already has lots of things and doesn't want anything, perhaps just get her some sweets or chocolates if you feel she needs something else?

Or if you don't often get takeaways, arrange for a Nando's, Dominos or whatever else she might like?

Or even just give her the money or a prepaid debit card (not shop vouchers the way things are going) and encourage her to save until she does want something, or even save 'just because' or for driving lessons/ car if you feel you have to give her more?

But it does seem you've been more than generous already - is this the normal level of gift giving in your family? Perhaps she doesn't want anything because she already has more than enough?

Does she have a fancy, full length mirror ? My dd loves hers........it's easily her most used Christmas present. 🙄

Thanks for this. No this isn't a normal level of gifting. This is an excessive amount this year but to be fair, the bedroom did need redoing and her iPad is a slow smashed mess, so I'm surprised it's lasted the 5 years!

She has her own bank account so may put an extra £20 in there and then get her a wee chocolate hamper and her fave takeaway.

iPad will be opened at mums and coming to ours the next day and will see her bedroom. I might actually get a new pair of Pyjamas for her to open - and go with her new bedding!

It's such a difficult age.

@Ilovemaisie Anymore teddies and I will be able to open my own Build-a-Bear haha! she's got loads and loads up in the attic! I think the roof will cave if we got anymore lol!!!

Ds had some of the hexagon wall lights that change colour when you touch them, you can set them up in different patterns. I got a cheaper set on Amazon. Also which have been a hit, goyza making kits from Tesco, a weighted blanket also a movie night kit so pjs, popcorn bucket, sweets etc.

whoknows1230 · 16/03/2021 11:06

Oodies (the fake ones from Amazon) have been a hit here, as well as LED lights and an Echo Dot

BaronessBomburst · 16/03/2021 11:08

Silver jewellery. A bangle maybe or a pendant? Get her a nicer, more grown up version of what she currently wears.

Good Idea! She has a google home in her room, so all fine there, but I like the idea of the Oodie!! Thank you!

You're welcome!

Fitness watches went down well here. You don't have to spend a fortune on the cheaper models. Desk light? Desk organiser? Nice pen?

BaxterDog87 · 23/03/2021 18:32

I got my 14 year old a gorgeous wall print for hers which she loved. I keep finding great gift ideas through tiktok of all places!

The print was from www.zenditcards.com/

I also know a bunch of handcrafted cheapish jewellery makers if you need which have never disappointed :)

seatofmars · 23/03/2021 18:35

The entire series of a type of book, perhaps? I remember loving Goosebumps at her age!

zigzagbetty · 23/03/2021 18:38

Can you wrap her new bedroom door in paper with a big bow to make it part of her present. The hoodie sounds like a great gift

clpsmum · 23/03/2021 18:41

Make up mirror
Led lights for new room
Straighteners/hair dryer
Dressing gown or oodie

Spied · 23/03/2021 18:43

My slightly younger dd is loving her instax polaroid camera.

Spied · 23/03/2021 18:44

Fujifilm- sorry.

waltzingparrot · 23/03/2021 18:51

More grown up silver necklace/bangle
