Cranial osteopathy for newborn - success stories?!

Has anyone had a positive experience with babies responding to cranial osteopathy helping with wind/reflux?

First session this week and don't want to get my hopes up but we are really struggling with gas and have tried everything else!

Birth was v quick which I have heard can make them a bit "misaligned" and worsen issues so hopefully it will help.

How old is your DC? Have they been diagnosed with reflux, are they breastfed etc? Reflux is awful I feel your pain x

6 weeks. EBF.

No - I feared silent reflux but I don't think it's quite that severe. She never brings anything up but we do struggle with wind. Like we have to do it obsessively to keep her comfortable and sometimes we have bad episodes. It isn't easy to get up at all. But mostly she seems calm and pain free which I wouldn't expect with reflux?

Had tongue tie snipped at 3 weeks and working with an IBCLC on latch too.

Tried it but didn’t notice any difference tbh. Sorry!

I had success with a chiropractor as did my friends

First born had it at three months after a v traumatic delivery and he had a very positive response x middle one not quite as dramatic response but equally traumatic delivery x youngest was planned c section but needed extensive cranial as her the part of her skull which made her brow was too forward and she would have had a life time of nasal problems if we’d done nothing xx can highly recommend it but please be aware- it’s really gentle and really looks like they aren’t doing anything!

I didn't know about it when dd was a newborn so she was about 5-6 months when we tried it. DD constantly threw up. She wouldn't lie still for the stomach issue to be worked on but when her head was smoothed (or whatever was done - I can't remember now) she would lie nicely.

Three sessions in and her slight cross eye was sorted out.

I gave up after a couple more sessions. DM reckoned I gave up vomiting at 8 months so I decided to wait and see. DD gave up at 8 months and 3 days.

Just to add that I had a caesar.

It was a waste of money and time for me, I'm afraid

We saw an osteopath with my younger two. Worked very well with them both, especially my youngest. He’d never lay on his back before without screaming and straight after his session he had a 2 hour nap on his back.

It wasn’t just cranial osteopathy though.

I had great success with it for ds1s colic. I had a forceps delivery and from aged 2.5 weeks he was screaming almost constantly. It was a nightmare. I took him to a cranial osteopath and she said he had torticolis from his delivery. His neck was very stiff and he would usually keep it tilted to one side. After his first session at 8 weeks he was completely different, so much happier and chilled. We did a few recommended exercises at home and had another session the following week and he was like a different baby. I’d have paid 100x what I did as I was at my wits end with the screaming. Definitely worth a go.

I have! My dd had it when she was 5 months old. I wish id had it done sooner for her. She had 3 treatments and it was sorted.

Happygogoat · 16/03/2021 15:06

Had session today - apparently dd had a lot of tension in her shoulders and neck: we discussed some other issues potentially attributed to her v quick delivery. Makes sense to me.

I feel confident it will have helped even a little, she seemed almost in a trance after and slept in the car home which has never happened before!!

I didn't feel that I was being "sold", I asked to book again and he said to wait and see as may not be needed so that at least shows me the practitioner wasn't money grabbing :) I'm sure tired new parents will throw money at a problem he could make a killing!!

Tried it. No use at all.
