Hello Mums

I am homeless and currently living in a homeless hostel, unemployed and with long term medical conditions.

I tried applying for the council list but have been unsuccessful I had also asked the hostel staff to assist me in finding a suitable place and they’re trying to push me into something called PRS through some passage they said.

Does anyone has experience with PRD rentals through passage? Please share your experience and advise.

I also don’t understand is PRS is private rented sectors or private rented solutions anyone that knows more please share.

I’m also looking into renting something privately on my own but I’m just lost in my options and on how much housing benefits I would be entitled to abs whether there would be any benefit caps (because I previously had a cap) how to make landlords accept people on DSS? I know since Covid there’s a law that’s says landlords should accept DSS but I’m not sure how many landlords are following that rule..

What I also don’t understand is why are people in homeless hostels not affected by the benefit caps? But when people would like to actually go ahead and find something privately the government goes ahead and polled a cap again, which then again will make their finances more difficult to afford something, it’s like they would like to keep people in these hostels for as long as possible

Do you mean The passage in London?
Regarding privately rented - if you're under 25 and have spent 3 months in a homeless hostel then you would normally only be entitled to the shared accommodation rate of housing costs but from June this year you will now be entitled to the 1 bed rate
To find out what this will be you can check here

Yes, the passage in London.

The shelter website says if you have been in a homeless hostel for 3 months you will qualify for a 1 bedroom rate but about benefit caps ? I contacted universal credit and they said if I moved privately, They would be the ones paying for my Housing benefit and the cap would apply again, which would make me homeless again... but in the homeless hostel there’s no benefit cap, which is weird

I’m also wondering if it’s possible to claim DHP prematurely? Would that be granted helping with benefit cap?
