Thornton's Chocolate Shops Closing

Will anyone on here miss them?

They've missed a trick. They could have gone in with WHSmith stores to keep their High Street presence. A win-win as it would drive customers into WHS (like their post office counters have done), and would have keep somewhere for shoppers to buy their chocolates. WHS usually has spare shelf capacity and an exclusivity deal for WHS to sell the full range (inc those that supermarkets don't sell) would give them an edge over the supermarkets.

Done they sell chocolates through online card and gift sites?

HC is the new kid on the block, for now. Until someone new comes along and sells over priced chocolates to the brand snobs.

They've been going for years. I prefer their chocolates. I am not a brand snob.

Exactly. The first Hotel Chocolat shop opened in 2004, but that was predated by online sales from 1993 and the Chocolate Tasting Club from 1998 onwards.

I'm anything but a brand snob. Most of my shopping comes from Aldi or Lidl and I drove a Skoda for many years, well before it became socially acceptable to do so.

But it's obvious to anyone that Thorntons chocolate is nowhere near the quality it used to be and Hotel Chocolat is a far superior product.

I used to go into our local Thornton's to get the the personalised messages piped on . I would like to say I'd miss that , but realised that I haven't done it for a while.

I agree with others saying that the product has been downgraded abs no longer special .

I used to live the dark chocolate with an apricot filling .

Like so much other chocolate these days, full of palm oil which makes it inedible. Won't be missed by me. not sad.
