What's the real low down re: living in Hastings?

Hey Guys,

My partner and I want to buy a house together. Ideally we'd love to move to Brighton but I'm online scrolling through properties in Hastings and there appears to be an abundance of fantastic period housing, with character features at seriously affordable prices. Coming from London, you really get bang for your buck. However I hear Hastings has a bad reputation for crime and drugs is seriously rife. Is this true? How bad is it? We'd like to have a baby and want to be sure we're in a decent area, that's safe with good schools. Please, can anyone give me the real low down on living in Hastings and whether these house prices are too good to be true and we should keep our sights on Brighton? Will Hastings ever be up and coming? Thanks x

@seaiscallingme that is true. Shhhh, I have a property to sell but don't mention it and say I have a deposit and will get a mortgage for the rest. You have to say that in order to view, otherwise you unfortunately can't gauge anything. By the time you have viewed lots of places when yours does come under offer you will know exactly what you are after and can go for it asap! x

Old thread, I know, but seeing as you live in St Leonards (I think), maybe you could advise, please? My DH and I are planning on moving back to the Uk from Spain (we are both retired) and are looking at St Leonards. We like the look of the town but don't know that part of east Sussex well. Are there particular parts of the town that we should avoid? Perhaps certain streets or neighbourhoods?
Thanks!
