I took a tablet meant for high blood pressure/enlarged prostrate

Collected my prescription yesterday from the usual chemist - didn't check the name on the bag. I've got in the habit of taking my tablet first thing in the morning - again, I didn't check. Just fumbled one out of the packet before I got up.

I only checked the box as it was smaller than the usual one - the tablet itself was very similar in size to my usual one. Very silly of me I know - lesson learnt.

But I'm assuming one wrong tablet won't do me any harm?

One wouldn't but you should get in touch with the pharmacy ASAP as someone else may have your meds.

I’m a GP. One dose of a prescribed medication (even if not prescribed for you) is unlikely to be inherently harmful in itself but it depends on your general health and what else you are taking.

I’d recommend ringing 111 for advice.

Gosh that's quite an error for the pharmacist to make. You need to tell them as soon as they open tomorrow. I once got given someone else's meds when I was in hospital. I refused to take it, the nurse insisted the Sister said I was to take it. I refused and went to the ward desk. The Sister was very very grateful. I guess as I was heavily pregnant it could have had dire consequences.

BTW it's prostate not prostrate!

Thanks for the answers - yes, I'll call the chemist ASAP in case someone is either missing meds completely or taking ad's!

Good job you insisted @CatherineCawood. And yes - thank you, I always get that wrong!

this happened to me once, but I noticed before I took it, so I don't think it's that unusual, but it should be!
call 111 for reassurance but def call the pharmacy asap

I used to get it wrong until I did the PR for Prostate Cancer Awareness Week! I would have looked a right wally sending out press releases about people's prostrates 😂😳
