You wake up and you're the only one alive. What do you do?

I've just started watching I Think We're Alone Now and this is the premise. I'm only 8 minutes in and we've just seen how our hero spends his time.

I think it's a fascinating idea so I had to pause it to consider what I would do. What would you do?

Sounds grim, I'll give that a miss.

If you want something that starts with a not dissimilar premise but which isn't grim, try Terry Pratchett's Nation.

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2021 18:21

Sounds bad I wouldn’t last long. I eat and drink alcohol. Freak out

I always think back to the episode where person could stop time and they stopped everyone as a nuclear bomb was falling

I can’t remember if it was the Twilight Zone or Tales of the Unexpected

cyclingmad · 14/03/2021 18:23

I'd get myself ready, drive to the shops buy a printer, go to a police and get all the guns and bullets I can. Soon enough urban animals will become a problem or zoo animals who might escape, need to be prepared!

I'd then Google everything I coukd because if noone is making sure electricity is going to keep running I need to research everything I can about how I can survive.

Then I decide on where to live preferably near a gym with a swimming pool set myself up and then have fun like go grt myself an Aston Martin car or every car id love to drive.

Thats as far as I can think

zombielady · 14/03/2021 18:29

I think I'd just wander from town to town, having a nosy, sleeping in mansions, wearing nice jewellery

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2021 18:33

I suppose you’d have to think about food supply if you’re going to hang around.

So plant stuff

itssquidstella · 14/03/2021 18:35

Oh god. Assuming no bodies (because I think that would creep me out too much to leave the house), I'd steal a van, load up on petrol and non-perishable food and booze (and maybe some weed if I was brave enough to explore the dodgy estate opposite my flat) and drive to the south coast. Find somewhere nice in Devon or Cornwall where I could grow veg etc (would raid the nearest shop for supplies that I could use as seed stock) and wait to see what happened.

I'd raid a pharmacy too, and as someone else suggested, spend some time googling and printing instructions about how to deal with various ailments, how to farm, how to fix a car etc.

I'd live in hope and probably end up going mad.

itssquidstella · 14/03/2021 18:37

Actually, if I knew/strongly suspected I was the only one alive, I wouldn't stress too much about non-perishables. I'd want to siphon off as much fuel as possible, because that evaporates over time, but if I chose to hole up on the edge of a big city then the local supermarkets would have enough tinned stuff to keep a single person alive for years.

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 14/03/2021 18:42

but if I chose to hole up on the edge of a big city then the local supermarkets would have enough tinned stuff to keep a single person alive for years.

But you'd have to navigate your way around all the fresh food in every shop that would be rotting long before you could eat it all! And it would attract rats and probably hungry dogs, who would move into Tesco's en masse ...

🤢

@JazzyJelly

Free all the animals in cages so they have a chance.
I love this Flowers
Sideorderofchips · 14/03/2021 18:48

Get as far away from the nearest nuclear power station as possible as thst will meltdown after a while.

Love51 · 14/03/2021 18:49

Learn to start a car / lorry without keys. I think if be able to help myself to petrol from petrol stations. Stockpile bottled water in the lorry. There are other essentials but I think I could nick them from any house. Head south. It is cold here.

joystir59 · 14/03/2021 18:50

Have a look around for a really nice new car and go for a drive.

Bluewavescrashing · 14/03/2021 18:52

This thread is everything 😂

peak2021 · 14/03/2021 18:53

Food supply would be my first thought, tins especially. Though how I would break in I don't know.

Hardbackwriter · 14/03/2021 18:54

Am I not in the midst of the most intense grief imaginable? I would guess I'd have a total breakdown. Assuming that as part of this reality I don't care that everyone I love is dead I guess I'd try to gather food.

Umbivalent · 14/03/2021 18:55

Cry.

RosaDiazRocks · 14/03/2021 18:57

Kill myself, I expect. Seems pointless to live with noone else.

nocoolnamesleft · 14/03/2021 18:59

Everyone else in the world dead? Kill myself. Before the smell starts.

Needhelp101 · 14/03/2021 19:02

Hope that I'd somehow woken up in the film of I am Legend and go and find Will Smith 😉

cyclingmad · 14/03/2021 19:02

This thread suddenly makes me realise how litter i know, I have this urge to learn how to fly, drive a boat and a train so I can be ready Grin how to shut down a nuclear plant, and so on

Haha

Myneighboursdomyheadin · 14/03/2021 19:03

In my version my husband and children are survivors too.

I even have a great version where a few selected nice people survive, like just the nice people on my street.

MarshaBradyo · 14/03/2021 19:04

Does everything stop straight away? Eg music / electricity

Imagine posting on here and no response (if it works)

You’d have the birds as noise

Myneighboursdomyheadin · 14/03/2021 19:05

Presumably mumsnet still works?

LockdownCheeseToastie · 14/03/2021 19:06

Just read ‘last one at the party’. She went to London hotels, drank the champagne, slept in the clean sheets, took at the drugs she could find and enjoyed it until the power went out!

Myneighboursdomyheadin · 14/03/2021 19:07

I would feel justified in my long held dislike of lifts!
