I've just started watching I Think We're Alone Now and this is the premise. I'm only 8 minutes in and we've just seen how our hero spends his time.

I think it's a fascinating idea so I had to pause it to consider what I would do. What would you do?

  1. Take an artic truck
  2. Fill it with all the tins, medical supplies and seeds I can locate at All the shops - plus a chainsaw
  3. Drive the truck to Scotland
  4. Take up residence In a small cottage near freshwater streams, aside a hill for viewing - woodlands on my side of the stream for firewood.
  5. Dig my crop patches and hunker down til the vikings come for me Blush

Bubbinsmakesthree - thank you!

Frenchfancy · 21/03/2021 19:16

Scotland? Why would you want to go north?

Puzzledtenant · 21/03/2021 19:37

I'll assume, as PPs have said, everyone has vanished rather than died, I'd take one car after another (as the petrol in each ran out) and head for London, I'd live off whatever's in Harrods and all the nice shops and live in grand houses. If you knew everyone would come back after a year or two just as suddenly and not know any different, life would go back to normal, then I'd find it an amazing experience being on my own and free for that time. If they were gone for good I don't think I'd cope long term.

I pee in the bath with no judgement. Then I become president, in that order

Ursy1 · 24/01/2023 18:45

I've thought about this thread again.....any more thoughts.

Nocaloriesinchocolate · 24/01/2023 19:04

Drive through every speed restricted area at 90 mph -

WigglyGlowWorm · 24/01/2023 19:19

Well obviously I’d declare myself Queen of the Universe and fashion myself a crown to wear.

Then, in practical terms, I’d go to my pharmacy and get as much of my prescription medication as possible. Probably have to go to a few pharmacies, seeing as no more is being produced!

I’ll then delete all my work emails and everything from SharePoint 😆 (at this point I’ll realise it’s all a dream and I’m fucked)

I’d go and sit in my neighbour’s hot tub 😆

Go and get myself lots of nice new clothes, I mean the Queen of the Universe has got to look her best at all times after all.

Break into a book shop.

yes. Waterstones at Piccadilly. Acres of books a good view and a bar on the top floor.

viques · 24/01/2023 23:47

zombie thread.

which probably explains where all the other people have gone.

Oh shit shit shit shit………

ILiveInSalemsLot · 25/01/2023 00:07

I'd just want to search for other possible survivors and find out what happened.

TangledWebOfDeception · 25/01/2023 00:08

I’ve remembered this thread quite fondly from time to time. I’m glad it’s been resurrected!

ofwarren · 25/01/2023 00:09

Zombie thread, but a good one.
Thanks for sharing

@boredinthouse ·
A radio is no good if it's literally just you alive!

But you would not know you were the only one!!

howaboutchocolate · 25/01/2023 07:35

Realistically I'd probably go into shock at finding my husband and children dead next to me or disappeared. Then I'd call my family for help and they'd be dead or gone too. Wandering around bookshops and drinking wine would be the last thing on my mind.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 25/01/2023 12:29

I spent loads of time thinking about this the first time round, and now I’ve just wasted another load of time thinking about it again.

For long term survival the most essential things is going to be access to a clean water source. So I’m jumping straight on the internet and researching places that have a village spring or pump.
God bless the internet, there’s a site out there that reviews springs:
findaspring.com/map/

i also want to be near woodland for firewood.

An established area of allotments or a smallholding would be good.

Ideally with 10-20 miles of an urban centre (I’m looking at Bristol) for sourcing provisions (food, medicine, etc).

I want to find 4-5 vehicles I can keep in action long term, syphoning fuel from other vehicles. And some bicycles with trailers.

I’m also going to try to find a company in the Uk that supplies things like wind turbines or PV for developing countries/disaster zones as they’re more likely to be designed for easy maintenance than adopting an existing set-up.

Told you I’d thought too much about this!

Hardbackwriter · 25/01/2023 21:41

Ooh, I remember this thread - I was a few weeks postpartum and the premise made me well up with sadness at the thought of being without my precious children!

RealeyesRealizeReallies · 25/01/2023 21:44

I'd finally let my long held delusion sink in..that I'm the greatest human alive!

frankie001 · 25/01/2023 23:11

I’d drive into central London, but stupid anxiety would still have me thinking I’d get a congestion zone fine!
