Are out of date nuts safe to eat?

I forgot to buy the pistachio nuts to decorate the top of a cake.

Searching through the cupboards I have found hazelnuts dated March '19 and cashew nuts dated Dec '19! Would you use these?? Chopped up.

The only other thing I have is rainbow sprinkles but I don't think they would go with a cream cheese & lime topping

Try one?

They might be a bit stale and hard but if not, I would use em

I would, yes.

Taste them. Any nut past its best tastes vile - sort of stale and mouldy.

Thanks all.

Hazelnuts were a bit grim but the cashews will do. Only need a small handful chopped up to mix with the lime zest so I'll go for it. Just didn't want to make anyone ill
