Job Interview Anxiety - help!!

SummerOne · 14/03/2021 10:33

I have a job interview today for a job which I have wanted for a long time and I am so nervous. I have anxiety so when it comes to interviews my brain scrambles and tends to go blank which means I start talking about things which are slightly off track! I get really panicky and end up sabotaging myself even though I am perfectly capable.

Does anyone have any tips they could share please? I really want to nail this interviewSad

Try and frame your answers using the STAR technique which will hopefully keep you on track - Situation (set the scene), Task (describe the purpose), Action (explain what you did), Result (share the outcome).
Always works for me.
GOOD LUCK! X

Read the JD numerous times, have three strong examples planned and learned so you can confident answer whatever they ask and not go off track. When they finish asking asking question, smile and breathe, take a pause and then answer.

I am great at giving interview advice but not so good at following it myself! Am someone who naturals just rambles on.
Good luck x

Thank you for your quick replies! The STAR technique sounds great and I think I'll stick a post it note behind the screen so I can reference to it. I must remember to pause too! I always forget to breathe which is a huge part of the problem I assume

Thank you for the good lucks! I would get my results in about 6 weeks but I will update this postSmile

I had an interview this week and I was so nervous too! I took cue cards in with prompts if I needed them and I also gave them a suggestion of something I could bring to enhance the department and left it with them so they wouldn't forget me as I went first at 9am. I got the job!

And good luck of course!

The STAR technique is great. Also relax and remember to breathe. The interviewers want you to do well - they want to successfully recruit someone into the role, not to catch you out. Have a glass of water to hand and if you need to think, pause and take a sip of water. Don’t be afraid to ask them to repeat a question or say things like, “I’d just like to take a moment to think about that before I answer.”

Good luck!
