With a cold!

We haven't been ill since before Christmas.

Anyone else already caught an illness from their dc being back at school?

I imagine a huge portion of the children have caught and past something on. I know lots of teachers who work at lots of different schools and all of them except a tiny handful have come down with a cough, cold or bug in the past 5 days. Many have likened it to when small children start nursery and they get constant coughs, colds and tummy bugs.

Literaryseed · 14/03/2021 08:08

Yep. All down with a cold here.

AaronPurr · 14/03/2021 08:13

Yep, I work in a school and have a stinker of a cold. It's the first one in almost a year. 😷

Abraxan · 14/03/2021 08:15

I've returned to school this week and woken today with a headache and catarrh. I'm hoping it's hay fever kicking in rather than the start of a cold.

Aria20 · 14/03/2021 08:27

Yes both primary age kids have got heavy snotty colds! I do feel sorry for the school staff - it's so obvious kids are germy and schools are perfect for spreading everything despite regular hand washing... Secondary age child, who wears his mask all day along with all 31 others in his class and on the bus is fine!

bettertimesarecomingnow · 14/03/2021 08:37

Yep I was down with a flu like thing on my second week back (teacher)

Haven't been anywhere for months to catch it anywhere else!

Blueappletree · 14/03/2021 08:41

Dc in secondary, so everyone wearing masks in the school including classroom. So no. And my dc hasn't had any sign of cold at all this winter.

HappydaysArehere · 14/03/2021 08:44

Strange I have had a cold symptoms and not felt well but I haven’t been anywhere and not had visitors. I wondered where it had come from but blaming the changeable weather and getting cold at times.

BlackberrySky · 14/03/2021 08:46

Nope. Nothing wrong with any of us, nobody has caught cold, nits, flu or otherwise.

wheresmyhairytoe · 14/03/2021 08:49

I've worked throughout in a nursery and been fine but come down with a snotty cold this week. First in over a year.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/03/2021 08:50

DS has been in school the entire way through since September and we've had no illness.

FurForksSake · 14/03/2021 08:50

It is the start of hay fever season, so could be that. I've been processing COVID tests in secondary for 8 hours a day and in school since Christmas. I'm fine and so are all of my colleagues.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 14/03/2021 09:19

As @FurForksSake says, we’ve all had hay fever start this week, it the beginning of tree pollen season.

Try an anti-histamine and see if that helps to relieve the symptoms.

Vursayles · 14/03/2021 09:19

Yes! Got a cold as soon as toddler went back to nursery in jan, it lasted about three weeks. Longer than coronavirus 😂

RedBlackCandle · 14/03/2021 09:29

Yep 6 year old is a bit snotty here started on day 2 of being at school.

She has been off since November 31st though due to some medical treatment so assume it's catching up on 3 months of illness.

Aria20 · 14/03/2021 10:22

I myself have hay fever symptoms and know it is hay fever. The primary kids don't suffer hay fever and I can tell the difference between cold or hay fever. It's so typical we have been a germ free house for months lol. Hey ho part of life of kids being at school I guess....

35andThriving · 14/03/2021 13:42

Flowers Hope everybody feels better soon.

CoffeeWithCheese · 14/03/2021 13:46

Yep - DD2 (has been in the KW provision throughout) is a ball of snot and a cough. Precautionary jaunt down to the nose picking station has been done cos the school staff in that year group are really really jumpy as hell.

BertieBob · 14/03/2021 14:00

Yep. Only our youngest is back (were in Wales) and he has come down with a stinking cold. I expect more to come now our eldest and I return tomorrow.

doctorboo · 14/03/2021 15:53

I commented to fellow my TAs just before the last lockdown ended that compared to the end of ‘19/start of ‘20 I’d been lucky so far and not caught any bugs! Everyone returned and my three children and I have all been ill with a tummy bug and heavy cold! I’ve only been out of bed to use the loo since Friday night!

HelloCanYouHearMe · 14/03/2021 15:57

I hear you... DS is full of snot

BigGreen · 14/03/2021 19:26

Sick here too! Sad

JackieTheFart · 14/03/2021 19:36

2/3 kids have been at school throughout - third went back this week and yes, he has a cold. This is a child who is never ill - literally can’t remember the last time he was unwell at all.

Really hoping DH and I don’t catch it. I’m already ticked off coz I broke my finger the other day!

nocoolnamesleft · 14/03/2021 19:42

Happens every September, so was definitely going to happen now.

Mummaofboys93 · 14/03/2021 20:07

Yep! Back for all of a week & youngest woke up Saturday with an awful cold. Poor kids nose is so blocked he is taking a breath after every mouthful of food or drink. Hasn't been unwell since before the first lockdown!
