Can anyone recommend me a brass bed for my lovely new post-divorce life?

I would like actual brass or maybe something more coppery. Either traditional Victorian design or something more inter-war but definitely a vintage kind of style.

Double sized. Preferably quite high and firm.

I’m not sure if a £500-600 - frame only- budget is realistic, (because I’m finding it hard to judge the quality of what I’m looking at) although that was my initial idea. I want quality over penny pinching, though, so will go higher if I need to.

Any ideas?

Look up The Original Bed Co, I have three frames from their, two bought new one bought on EBay, all really good quality

Wow one company even has a metal framed one!

Whilst I think they look lovely I would advise against one with a raised end. I have a Laura Ashley Somerset bed and have got my feet caught in the end gaps a few times - could be quite a nasty injury!

I’m looking for new beds at the moment and these people look promising and get good reviews:

Also, modern mattresses don’t tend to need flipping so one less problem 🙂

Maybe a local metal worker could make a custom one? It'd be pricey but you'd be able to get it made specifically for you.

Feather and black always did a nice traditional bed

minniemoocher · 15/03/2021 12:31

My bed is like that, it's from an independent bed shop in Yeovil 4 years ago so no idea of availability, was £460

minniemoocher · 15/03/2021 12:32

Mine is mellower in colour though

Thank you so much for all the information and suggestions. I’ve just got hijacked by an unexpected work call but I will come back later to go though all the posts.

Much appreciated.

I bought a beautiful one a few years ago that had shaped ends. Will try and find it

Oldraver · 16/03/2021 10:55

This one. It's not shined brass at all

Yea sorry, probably at the 'crap' end of the scale for most MNers 😄

RickiTarr · 16/03/2021 11:31

It is genuinely really hard to tell what is a bargain and what is cheap tin when you’re looking at pictures online, though, isn’t it @Oldraver ?

I had to do more work than anticipated yesterday and generally got distracted but I’m hoping to comb through all the suggestions tonight or tomorrow and make a shortlist to try to go and see IRL.

I’ve decided buying from the net sight unseen was a mad idea. Grin

I have to say I'm really pleased with mine. It arrived before the mattress so we still had our old one which was ready for the tip and the bed frame made a huge difference. Even better when we got the silk mattress

RickiTarr · 16/03/2021 12:13

Oh sorry I misread. You bought and you’re pleased with it? I’ll add it to the list. Thanks. Smile
