This is a major excursion Grin

Anything you'd particularly recommend?

Oh yes check out the hot cross buns. I bought their chocolate and orange ones and might have gone to heaven!

Amdone123 · 14/03/2021 09:20

I've never been to Waitrose, but it sounds lovely.
It's going on my bucket list.

Peridot1 · 14/03/2021 09:26

My list is getting longer!

Chaiandkaafee · 14/03/2021 09:39

Lavender shortbread biscuits. Possibly the best biscuits out there!

SoupDragon · 14/03/2021 09:40

My local Waitrose is like a visit to a theme park - it has a long snaked queuing system outside in the car park before you are even allowed in 😂

HappydaysArehere · 14/03/2021 09:40

The other week after not going to the shops for ages I had an appointment and passed Robert Dyas. It was actually open. It was early and only one person in there. I walked around in delight and to celebrate this new found joy I bought a frying pan which I didn’t really need.

DearlyIgnored · 14/03/2021 09:57

I have returned! Was in for 8.15 and it was lovely and quiet, although flowers and lots of bath/shower products were sold out or not restocked yet. I did get a sea salt and kelp bath foam.

I got the 3 for £10 easy cook meat (two chicken and one beef) which will last me all week! Nice fresh veg although they only had an enormous punnet of strawberries.

Currently having a coffee and toffee hot cross bun.

It was great Grin

Oh and I got the lemon breadcrumbs people recommended! Excited to try them out.

To the people who mentioned potato rösti, thank you as I’ve added them to my favourites now. Just this last weekend I was looking longingly at the Ikea Swedish food market online wishing I could buy some.

@BEANBAG765

Meh, I went to Waitrose for dill and ended spending £100. Felt like money well spent!
See, this is the Waitrose curse. You pop in for milk and end up spending ££££££ on delicious treats..

Where I live, the Waitrose is next to an Aldi. I can do a weekly big-shop in Aldi and marvel at my thriftiness. Then 'just' pop to Waitrose for a couple of bits...BOOM! Hard work all undone.

fireplaceburning · 14/03/2021 11:00

@NuclearDH ooh glad you mentioned this I meant to add to my delivery!!!

user1471457757 · 14/03/2021 11:16

The Indian butter chicken ready meal is delicious as are the Waitrose No. 1 sausages.

Swipeleftagain · 14/03/2021 11:20

I’m moving soon and my local supermarket (5 min walk) will be Waitrose - I can’t wait!

Vintagevixen · 14/03/2021 11:57

The Waitrose blinis - me and DD love them with cream cheese and salmon.

Sadly my small seaside town doesn't have Waitrose just M and S - their blinis just aren't the same.

I get very overexcited when I get near a Waitrose!

Chimchar · 14/03/2021 12:17

Loving this thread. Never usually shop there, but I bought lots of stocking fillers for my teens from Waitrose at Christmas time... little jars of umami paste, sushi rolling mat, noodle broth and other cool things!

I'm really fancying a trip after this. When you talk about Waitrose 1, is that their 'value' range?

ExtraordinaryQuince · 14/03/2021 12:23

I went into a service station and had a lovely time getting a coffee and sandwich I hadn't made and visiting a loo I hadn't cleaned.

JingsMahBucket · 14/03/2021 13:09

@Chimchar Waitrose 1 is their high quality range. Some of the products in there are still well priced though. Their value range is Waitrose Essentials whose products are very inexpensive but still great quality.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/03/2021 13:12

Glad you had a good time OP. I also went for a 'trip' to Waitrose yesterday morning. I have a list of a few things I like from there, like the tonic in small cans (no sweetners, cheaper than Fever Tree), plus bought some things on offer and some flowers for DM so it was OK costwise, plus I got my free newspaper.

Definitely somewhere to go alone and go when its quiet so you can browse in peace without bored people trying to hurry you up, as mentioned by a PP.

Top tip. If you don't shop there often, get their loyalty card and they'll send you coupons like £8 off £40 spend every so often.

Er, no Grin. That's their 'how fucking much, as if the place wasn't expensive enough' extra posh range. If you want the 'value, you don't need to take out a second mortgage to pay for it' range, that's Waitrose Essential.

@BarbaraofSeville @JingsMahBucket thank you. I hope I haven't shown myself up with my 'poor' ways! 😳😂

I fear that I might show myself up with exclamations of 'HOW MUCH????!!!!' If I look at the super posh range! 😊

fussychica · 14/03/2021 15:58

Waitrose is my supermarket of choice. Ours isn't too bad but to get the full experience and range have to drive to the one 25 mins away so, due to the stay local rules that's not been an option for a while. I find shopping in there usually an enjoyable experience and feel safer in there than other supermarkets since the pandemic.
NY cheesecake and large Tiramisu both fab
3 for £10 meat, fish, easy cook meals, great value.
No 1 beef burgers and paella when I can't be bothered to cook my own. When its on offer or reduced I can't make it for the price.
Keralan chicken fry from their Indian range.
I find Waitrose has some of the best offers around both on branded and own brand products and usually stock up.

SparklyWindow · 14/03/2021 16:20

I've been reading this thread as if it's porn Grin

Thanks for returning today to update us OP!

willowstar · 14/03/2021 16:24

Waitrose 1 decaffeinated coffee from Peru is excellent. Waitrose essentials decaf tea good, also their own brand baked beans, chilli oil, plain full fat Greek yogurt, extra mature cheddar. Waitrose is my supermarket of choice and our nearest is 20 miles away. I used to pass it on my way to and from work and was there as it opened and closed and got amazing bargains. Now I go over there every couple.of weeks. Love it.

NuclearDH · 14/03/2021 17:01

I had a massive Ocado delivery last night and am currently sat in bed eating Colin Caterpillar sweets. I might branch out with a Waitrose delivery next week.

MorePotatoSalad · 14/03/2021 17:13

Thanks to this thread I bought some really yummy treats in Waitrose today. Bonne Maman is perfection! Going back to look at bubble bath and shower gel.
