World Book Day voucher

My children received a World Book Day voucher from school, and they are really keen to spend them.

The vouchers expire at the end of this month and can't be spent online. Does anyone have any idea where we can actually get the WBD books as we are still in lockdown? They missed out last year for the same reason but we obviously sucked it up as last year felt like an immediate apocalypse!

Sainsbury’s.

StrikingMatches · 13/03/2021 15:32

Sainsbury had the WBD books this week. They're usually by the till.

Used mine at Sainsbury's

Thanks. We usually shop online but I will check out a supermarket- seems a sensible idea. Shame they don't give the facility to spend online.

We went to WH Smiths. I think our school said you could use them online though? I may be wrong.

Oh! I assumed WH Smiths was closed! How are they deemed essential?

I’m wrong! Just double checked the email!

standingonaseesaw · 13/03/2021 15:39

Our letter from school said that participating stockists would continue to honour the voucher while stocks last. So I wonder if that means places like Waterstones might have them when they reopen, or maybe they won’t have bothered this year.
We got ours in Asda but they didn’t have many left.

Don't 90% of them now have the post office them or is that just the ones near me. I also think they are a essential store as they sell newspapers?

Ifiwasadaisy · 13/03/2021 15:42

Tesco still had some yesterday.

Our local WH Smiths are also the Post Office, hence open. I imagine they come under newsagents too.

Retrievemysanity · 13/03/2021 15:42

@OneMorePieceofCheese it’s got a post office in. Plus as pp says, newsagents are deemed essential.

Wowcherarestalkingme · 13/03/2021 15:44

I got my DS one in Tesco yesterday. Weren’t many left though

Our family has an independent bookshop and we are going to honour the vouchers when we are (eventually) allowed to reopen. We have shared this with local schools, so people are aware.
It still might be worth emailing or even calling your local independent? Many are still working behind the scenes, sending out online orders etc. It is just so frustrating watching the supermarkets take all our trade at the moment Sad

We don't have an independent in our town. We have a Waterstones but no independent, sadly. I will check out WH Smiths.

I’m having the same issue. In fact I’ve been in 4 different supermarkets but there was none left.

CleanHankie · 13/03/2021 17:03

World Book Day tokens are being honoured beyond 28th March by booksellers, whilst stocks last. Of course that's only helpful if you can find somewhere that has them!
I know our local children's bookshops have both advertised this and if you order a book from them whilst in lockdown, you can add one of the World Book Day books to the order.
