How to find rental property in a specific area.

It’s been 26 years since I was looking at rental properties and I’m helping my DD to find one for her uni placement year. We know the company and building she will be working in, but neither of us know the area at all and it’s a good few hours away.
What I’d like to do is put her work place in the middle of a map and then have all the rental properties within a specific distance come up. Is this possible? Also any advise on the best online sites or the ones to avoid would be very welcome!

Yes, Rightmove. You can search by post code I believe but there is also a map and you can draw a circle around where you want to search.

Keep in mind she may not actually want to live right next where she works as many city centre areas can be dead after working hours.

Thank you for the advice. We are just trying to get an idea of relative costs to see if it is worth living further out as it’s in SW London. I’ve used the draw a line as you suggested. That’s perfect!

Rightmove and draw your own search area.

I find the estimates of how long it takes to walk/drive to a station on Rightmove rather optimistic.

Try using Google maps with the number of the property e.g.123 Long Road to South London Station, for a more accurate measurement of the walking or driving distance.

Is she looking for a whole property or a room in a flat share? If it's the latter then www.spareroom.co.uk
