Anyone got a link to a nice TV stand....for a ridiculously big TV?

The Tv is ridiculously big. In my view. The tv stand is 25 tears old and designed for a small cathode ray TV. And it’s big and lumpy. What do you stand your TV on that isn’t obstructive?

It can’t go on the wall.

Not a tv stand - we have an attractive large oak table for it. I suspect that officially it is a coffee table but it does the job perfectly and the DVD player (do people still use those?) sits nicely on the lower shelf. It’s nice but extremely heavy.

We have a very study sideboard that was originally for a fish tank (so quite chunky)

It had the bonus of being slightly higher than standard tv stand

My TV stand has two sturdy glass (safety) shelves with a rear upright that you mount the TV on. Cables go through the upright so mostly out of site

Not on wheels but very easy to move around to clean around/under

I'll have to try and remember where I got if from Grin

We had this problem and have actually looked for sideboards. It’s old fashioned to want the tv down low, you actually want to be looking straight forward or slightly up of leaning back on a sofa. Side boards are the right height and most modern tv’s don’t need the devices “visible” on the shelf for the remote etc.
We’ve decided about 75cm tall is the right height, and sideboards are the perfect height and width and far more storage.

ours is a bit like this .You can also get special corner ones if TV is going in the corner but we have an alcove and the table and TV fit almost perfectly.

How big are we talking?? My in-laws have a ridiculously big TV, they had a stand made for it by a carpenter

itsgettingwierd · 13/03/2021 11:50

My tv isn't ridiculously big but my set up would work with one!

I have a kallax 4x2 on its side (other kallax upright beside it).

So I have my tv on top and then plenty of storage and shelves.

pongopig · 13/03/2021 11:51

We’ve got one similar to this www.johnlewis.com/alphason-element-modular-1250mm-stand-for-tvs-up-to-60-inch/grey/p2359100 it has space for TiVo box, Blu-ray player etc and more underneath and the door fronts the signal from the remote pass through. Also, it means the tv is quite low down which is perfect for watching from the sofa

pongopig · 13/03/2021 11:54

I don’t agree with the pp that it is old fashioned to have it low down. It is not good ergonomically to be looking upwards

HedgeOwl · 13/03/2021 12:06

Looking straight ahead when sat on a waif or slightly upwards by a few degrees is far better ergonomically then bending your neck the wrong way and looking at the floor whilst simultaneously curving your back slouching in the sofa. Like tech neck looking down at a phone, we’re designed to look straight ahead. Watch toddler, they sit upright on chairs until they learn to copy adults and slouch into sofas.

HedgeOwl · 13/03/2021 12:07

?waif I think I meant sofa!

rosegoldwatcher · 13/03/2021 15:31

There are an abundance of TV cabinets available on Ebay, Marketplace, Gumtree etc - due to many folk wall-mounting their TVs.

This is one I bought for £20 on Ebay and refinished, for my son, who has also bought a massive TV, too heavy for a wall.
