Advice on buying a kitchenaid

Woodlandbelle · 12/03/2021 20:46

Anyone know what I should purchase in terms of a food mixer /processor

I want something to make buns/cakes
Also pizza dough

But I would also like something that makes breadcrumbs and so on so is a kitchenaid out for that? Thank you

Also where is best to purchase (been saving for a while)

We’ve recently refreshed our best food processor guide with the top options tried, tested and loved by Mumsnetters, including info on the KitchenAid brand. We hope this helps.

You’re talking about two separate bits of kit, really.

A stand mixer - the gold standard of which you have alluded to is a KitchenAid (the big retro ones you see on Bake Off - I have one and would rescue it in a house fire before my own children). This is for cakes, icing, dough, bun mixes etc. You can also get attachments like a pasta maker and an ice cream maker but these are bonus add-ons

A food processor is really your best thing for breadcrumbs (and chopping veg, making pesto, etc). Do NOT buy a KitchenAid branded one. I had one, and while it matched my stand mixer very nicely it was a pile of shite and I gave it away. I now have a Sage food processor which cost Father Christmas an arm and a leg a few years ago but it is glorious.

Oh - Amazon for both or Lakeland.

Cuisinart for a food processor/chopper

And kitchen aid for a mixer.

I have the Cuisinart expert prep pro and it did come with a dough blade. But I've not used it for that.

But it has everything. Slicing. Dicing. Chopping of various sizes. Grating. Spiralizing.

Knowing my DH it was from either Amazon or John Lewis.

Thanks all. Appreciate it. Yes I thought I might need two pieces of kit. I used to have a kenwood but it sadly packed in. I was actually googling this morning and sae the cuisnart. I made breadcrumbs this evening (Jamie Oliver chicken) and hand to use a stick blender - should have just used a rolling pin. Would the kitchen aid mix pizza dough?

Yes. KitchenAid comes with a dough hook which I circled suspiciously for a long time, then started using and never looked back. Making pizza dough with it tomorrow.

You need a food processor - Magimix, IMVHO is the best brand to get. Only need a stand mixer if you're doing a lot of baking.

MemoryIsRAM · 12/03/2021 21:12

I've got the grater attachment for my KitchenAid and I love it. I spent a week grating cheese just for the hell of it. We ate a lot of cheese that week Grin

mrspiersmorgan · 12/03/2021 21:15

You need a stand mixer for cakes, buns, pizza dough etc and a food processor for breadcrumbs chopping etc. I would recommend Kitchen Aid for the stand mixer and Magimix for the food processor, not cheap but I have had mine in daily use for the past 7 years and they show no sign of giving up the ghost just yet.

My kitchen aid stand mixer is the love of my life 🤗 well not quite but nearly! It’s 16 years + is used regularly and if it became unmendable now DH always says I can replace it from joint funds with no discussion 🤪.

I also was given by all my friends, for a significant birthday, a magimix. I like it, not overly enthralled and recently purchased a ninja chopping thing for £35 from Amazon. In the last month I’ve used that more.

Kitchenaid stand mixer is brilliant.. expensive but never regretted it.

I also have a kitchenaid blender which I love for soup, breadcrumbs, smoothies. Both look beautiful and are out permanently.

Gindrinker43 · 12/03/2021 21:38

I'm on a FB group where there is often debates about KitchenAid vs Kenwood stand mixer. I have a KitchenAid and use it regularly and absolutely love it. Its' quite an investment as they are expensive but if you are a baker its worth every penny, and looks great too.

PastramiNoRye · 12/03/2021 21:40

I've been looking into these and the Kenwood kmix scores the highest on Which?

ElphabaTheGreen · 12/03/2021 21:46

The KitchenAid mixer 25 year warranty and customer service is cast-iron. Something went wrong with the motor on mine several years after I got it. I posted it to them, they fixed it and posted it back a few days later without a penny exchanged or any requests for proof of purchase or original packaging (which was long gone). I vaguely recall I even printed out a paid postage label off the website to send it. I was well impressed. Definitely worth the few minutes I’d taken to register the warranty when I got it.

olderthanyouthink · 12/03/2021 21:54

I've done both with my KA , dough in the bowl and breadcrumbs with the grater attachment.

The grater is sooooo good DP wants it if we ever split (hell no, it's MINE).

@MemoryIsRAM is my people!

DareIask · 12/03/2021 22:41

Ok stop with the attachment love please... there's a grater in my amazon basket already Wink

Firkinhavinalaugh · 13/03/2021 09:29

The grater - I need to find mine - that’s worth it!!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 13/03/2021 09:36

Get you one that can do both! I've got a Kenwood and it has the stand mixer bowl with dough hooks etc, plus a blender jug and a food processor unit. Granted they don't look as trendy as a Kitchen Aid machine but my Kenwood lives in a cupboard anyway.

Woodlandbelle · 13/03/2021 10:35

You are all so good Flowers fir that ninja thing sounds good for 30 quid.
Only problem now is the cost Confused of the kitchenaid but I think it's worth it and haven't exactly been out much this past year so could justify it.

I had a kenwood bobbin and yes it was excellent. But I didn't have that attachment.
