Do you have a favourite Elvis Presley record, or a least favourite ?

Favourite - probably a tie between Always On My Mind and Suspicious Minds. It's just coincidence that they are both 'mind' songs. Least favourite is Surrender - it's too bleak and dramatic for my taste.

Favourites: Burning Love, In the Ghetto, A Little Less Conversation

Least favourite: Wooden Heart, not least because his pronunciation is terrible.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 12/03/2021 21:54

Having spent the last 9 years living next to a pub who, up until lockdown, regularly had various elvis impersonators and caterwauling locals. I can safely say I have no favourites at all.
Even had to listen elvis karaoke.

Clickncollect · 12/03/2021 21:54

Oh this thread is right up my street. Need to rein myself in on the favourites list and Elvis anecdotes from growing up as my Dad was a massive Elvis fan.
Favourite - If I Can Dream but I also love Such a Night and about 500 other Elvis songs
Least Favourite - A Little Less Conversation because it does nothing for me. Nearly all Elvis songs move me in some way, even the upbeat songs because they will trigger a childhood memory.
I’m not exaggerating when I say Elvis was played pretty much morning, noon and night in our house.
My dads funeral songs were:
Any Day Now
If I Can Dream
American Trilogy
How Great Thou Art
Hymns - Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art

Glad to see Never Been To Spain get a mention as my Dad loved that one.

I was born in Nov 1977 and apparently when it came on the evening news that Elvis had died my Dad had his feet in a bowl of water and he flew out of his seat distraught. He then took 3 days off sick to grieve for Elvis!

My favourite is Pocketful of Rainbows and least favourite is A little less conversation

ToffeeNotCoffee · 12/03/2021 21:55

Suspicious Minds. Also, Burning Love. The song, 'a little less conversation a little more action please.'

I don't mind, 'wooden heart.' In the Ghetto is a tearjerker (same as Streets of London by Ralf McTell)

Zampa · 12/03/2021 21:56

I wasn't an Elvis fan at all, until I visited Memphis (Sun Studios and Graceland) about 8 years ago. Didn't know much about him (still don't) but absolutely fell in love with the idea of him.

In the Ghetto is my favourite. Love it so much.

RedRiverShore · 12/03/2021 21:58

Favourite, American trilogy and How great thou art
Not so keen on Old Shepherd, but nothing I really dislike

RubyFakeLips · 12/03/2021 21:59

If I can dream.

I prefer WIllie Nelson’s version of Always on my mind.

RedRiverShore · 12/03/2021 22:01

Old Shep, not shepherd

Ontheboardwalk · 12/03/2021 22:15

I love I just can’t help believing and bridge over troubled water (love S&G but Elvis's version is better)

Hate always on my mind but love the PSB version. Elvis sounds weak in his version

Not a fan of the song are you lonesome tonight but love the live laughing version

Got a feeling That’s The Way It Is might be making an appearance tonight

user1498216537 · 12/03/2021 22:28

my favourites are in the ghetto, the wonder of you ,and suspicious minds

Heyha · 12/03/2021 22:34

Anybody else like his version of Snowbird? It's a lovely piece of music but quite bleak lyrics!

MaverickDanger · 12/03/2021 22:37

I walked down the aisle to Can’t Help Falling in Love. We heard a busker singing it a couple of years ago & DH started welling up.

My grandad had the full collection of Elvis vinyls, including some pretty rare ones. He sold them on the cheap to make more room & pay for my aunts school trip. Elvis died two days later.

DenisetheMenace · 12/03/2021 22:39

The only one I like is where he laughs all the way through. Feels human.

MissMatty2hats · 12/03/2021 23:15

Oh so many to choose from! I love Don’t, Viva Las Vegas (or ‘people last ages’ as my son used to sing when he was little) and Bossa Nova Baby at the moment, but tomorrow I could pick three different songs. I just love Elvis, all the Elvises - black leather comeback Elvis, fat jumpsuit Elvis, pretty in Hawaii Elvis. There’s an Elvis for every mood.

thenightsky · 12/03/2021 23:29

I said earlier American Trilogy, but I've just listened to In the Ghetto and sobbed my heart out Sad

Barefootinthecarpark · 13/03/2021 00:03

Favourite: When My Blue Moon Turns to Gold Again.

DingoWings · 13/03/2021 00:10

Are You Lonesome Tonight is one of my favourites (but this thread makes me want to listen to Elvis all day!)
I don't much like The Wonder of You

Nannyamc · 13/03/2021 00:32

In the ghetto..always brings tears to my eyes

Imnotsomesortofchump · 13/03/2021 00:40

Elvis singing Bridge over troubled water is beautiful

RedcurrantPuff · 13/03/2021 00:42

@AgentCooper

Your two favourites are definitely among mine too. I also love Burning Love and Marie’s the Name. The American Trilogy is bloody beautiful too.

Never been keen on Wooden Heart.

This

He truly had the most beautiful voice

Cherrypies · 13/03/2021 01:04

Happy memories, my Mum adored Elvis, like others on this thread, Sunday morning was Elvis and cleaning morning.
She was devastated when he died.
Always on my mind was played at her funeral, although it was twenty five years ago, I still well up when I hear it.
Least favourite- Old Shep, too upsetting.

sweetnessnfight · 13/03/2021 06:13

In the ghetto was good

IAcceptCookies · 13/03/2021 07:24

I have never been a fan of Elvis, but for some strange reason my 14YO DD seems to have a bit of a thing for him: not just (secretly!) listening, but drawing pictures etc. She downplays this, a bit embarrassed.
So I think I should listen to all the favourites listed above to educate myself and get into the Elvis vibe a bit so that we can talk together about it. She’s autistic, so only talks well to me about things she’s really into.

I think I’m going to prefer his early, rocky stuff best.

countingto10 · 13/03/2021 07:41

Current favourites are Pieces of my life and Love coming down.

Me and 16 yr old DS love Elvis (probably stems from being an Arsenal fan with Wonder of You)
