IUGR-any advice?

3 weeks ago I was measuring 2 days behind but last week I booked a private scan and I'm measuring 10 days behind. I'm high risk IUGR and babys head is also slightly behind which is why I'm going for scans which is how I know. I'm back at the hospital on Monday but anticipating what's going to happen. Anyone any advice or had similar happen?

My baby has gone from 2 days behind to 10 days behind in growth, what do I do or say? I'm 36+4 today

36+4 with less than 2 weeks undersize? You're almost fully cooked! For comparison, our son was IUGR and he came along at 29+1 (and weighed just 635g).

My advice - stop stressing. You're getting the extra scans you need to monitor baby's health. Don't compromise your own by getting worked up about this.

Agree with pp, don't stress, you're almost at the finish line!

My dd was born with iugr at 30 weeks, weighed 980g...but although she was smaller than average for a few years, there were no associated problems and is now on the small end of normal height and weight wise at 6yo!

Oh love, don’t worry, 10 days behind when you’re so far along doesn’t sound much, perhaps a small baby. I’m quite surprised it’s even flagged up, the last few weeks are baby putting on weight rather growing.
My 9lb 12oz boy was apparently measuring small 😳
I have also had a IUGR pregnancy (3rd pregnancy) which resulted in still birth at 25 weeks. He was a quarter of the size he should have been at the stage.
Try to enjoy the last few weeks of your pregnancy, I’m sure your baby will be just fine x

Thank you thats helped a bit, thankfully they haven't told me I am confirmed iugr but there is concerns that her head is 2 weeks behind her body, this was discovered at my anomaly scan at 20 weeks but they've been scanning me then sending me home (different doctor each time) and each one doesn't know why I'm there they think its just routine scans, they were discussing foetal medicine but that hasn't been mentioned since, its just because Monday could be my last scan and last chance to ask any questions as I'm obviously on my own due to covid so I forget everything lol.

My previous pregnancy they stopped measuring me at 32 weeks because I was there for blood pressure checks so they forgot and when I asked at 38 weeks to be checked it turned out my daughter stopped growing so I had to be rushed to be induced so don't want nothing left until last minute again as it all went wrong and had a horrible horrible birth.

Did the private scan company plot on to your GROW chart? Where does it plot on there?

Mammyofasuperbaby · 12/03/2021 19:51

I've had 2 iugr babies. One was 1330g at 33+2 weeks (severe pre eclampsia)and the other was 2250g at 36ish weeks (no idea why). Both are happy and healthy now, albeit small for their age.
I understand your concern but you are so close to 37 weeks, try to focus on that.
It's likely that you'll be given a game plan at your next scan but if you don't I'd be asking to see your consultant to discuss the plan going forward

Whydidyouask · 12/03/2021 20:04

I think with IUGR it’s the baby’s body which measures small rather than head. I’m
happy to be corrected, I can only go by my own experience and what I was told at the time, I’m absolutely no expert. I was told that brain development was more important for survival than say legs or arms so the reduced growth might be noticed in leg bone ratio.

Make sure you write your questions down for your next appointment. X

Oh love, all my babies have had growth problems in the womb. Worried me to death. All born by early section 38. Weeks. All just over 5lb.

First two were up to 75th centile by 3 months.

My 6 month old, a little slower as she hates feeding but she's just hit 50th this week.

I was told they would always be small. My first is 18 and pushing 6foot. My 7 year old is a sturdy thing, average height in her class.

Please try not to worry.
I was told doom and gloom with all three. They all thrived when out of my body.

Fuckadoodledoooo · 12/03/2021 20:13

I had scans from 32 weeks with all. I was so worried. Less so with my 3rd becuse of her siblings but they still tried to put the fear of god into me.

Hey, how did you get on at the hospital?
Soontobemumoftwo · 16/03/2021 12:26

Baby is on the small side, but nothing too concerning. I had high blood pressure and 2 traces of protein in my pee so I'm back on Thursday and if its the same they're going to admit me. Theyre happy enough with babys size if she stays in and keeps growing but now with the possibility of needing to be induced due to preeclampsia its just a waiting game to see what happens.

Hi Moms- are MCA dopplers safe? I believe dopplers can heat tissue way more than ultrasound and was wondering if the MCA brain doppler used for IUGR tests can cause damage to fetal brain?
