Removing cigarette smell

I’ve just bought a second hand cat carrier and when I’ve brought it home it stinks of cigarette smoke! I could smell it in my car on the way home.
Any tips on removing them smell? I have washed it with soapy water and let it outside to dry. Google recommends distilled vinegar which I don’t have right now.

Put it in a tied bin bag with bicarb sprinkled on it? That absorbs horrible smells.
Leave it for as many days as you can manage before you need to use it, then hose it off.

Fill it with scrunched up newspaper. Pop it in a bin liner and put scrunched up newspaper around it. Seal the bag and leave for as long as you can, at least a couple of weeks.
This has worked on a leather jacket and bag i bought from a charity shop.

Thank you. I’ll try a combination of both!
