For a suicide attempt? It’s in a local newspaper that they have been called out a large amount of times for them.

Not if they were up a tree or down a well say.

Depends what the attempt was I guess. They don't just put out fires.

I suppose it depends on the circumstances. If someone's threatening to jump off a high ledge or bridge, I can imagine why a fire engine would be called.

I would have thought police would be more suitable.

They carry certain equipment that police/ambulance don't to access/reach places.

My neighbour fell down the stairs a few years ago and landed in front of his front door. Back door was completely blocked from the inside (with junk) and police couldn't get in so fire crews came out to access the house to get to him.

They changed their name from the fire service to fire and rescue many years ago.
