I want to email my MP about violence against women; what shall I say?

I feel totally inarticulate and not remotely on top of any legislation that is currently (barely) being discussed. After recent events that are too distressing to mention I want to write to ask him to do what he can.

I don’t want to email with just general concerns, even if that might be valid.

What can i point him towards? What can I tell him I would like him to be supportive of?

He’s a decent local MP, I don’t vote for him but I have contacted him about issues in the past. He always responds. I don’t feel it would be a wasted email. As long as I say something vaguely significant.

Can anyone help?

How about asking him to raise and keep raising the issues in relation to budgets which keep women poor and dependent:

Ask what his view is on the Law Commission’s work on hate crime:

See if he was in the HoC today listening to Jess Phillips reading the annual list of women killed by men - if not, you could ask that he prioritise this next year?

And ask him what specifically he is doing to campaign to end gender-based violence against women and girls and how you could help?

Tougher sentencing - or any bloody sentencing - would be my first ask.

Thank you both.

I am going to put an email together this evening.

Is it worth alerting him to these cases?

Google some sentences that have recently been given for domestic violence you will see that most are given fines some less than £100 whilst parking/driving offences are much higher this is unacceptable and needs addressing I saw one the other day where the woman was stalked and eventually beaten and he got a community order.. What? Go do some weeding on a roundabout for nearly killing a woman? Sort it out

@Wearywithteens

Ask him how he is going to protect vulnerable women in places like prisons, hospitals, rape centres, refuges, toilets and changing rooms if male bodied people are allowed to identify as whatever they want.
I think I'd keep that separate, if he is an occupant of Male Privilege Planet it's best not to put forward more than one issue at a time IMHO.
