Help - what on earth do I get ds 14 for his birthday?

It's next week and I've got nothing Shock.

For Christmas he had a gaming laptop and was told it would be a joint birthday present as it was way more than I would normally spend, which he was fine with. But I can't just give him nothing and it's not like he can go to the cinema with friends or anything.

All I can think is sweets. He likes reading but has a lot of books waiting to be read, he likes music but has an Alexa and no need for anything else. He likes very plain clothes, so not suitable for presents. I don't want to buy tat just for the sake of it but obviously it needs to be cheapish things. I would like to spend about £30.Any ideas would be amazing...

What about something like 3 months audible subscription or a kindle unlimited subscription (can get the kindle app on any device)? If you're thinking books might be the way to go.

Any games he wants for the computer?

Mine has asked for CDs, a Swiss army knife, a coat, pyjamas like the one he already has as they are so comfy, a light sabre...

ComfortablyGlum · 10/03/2021 22:34

Smart watch / fitness watch type thing? Amazon have loads for around your budget...you don’t need to spend £££s. I got my 14yr old DS a Samsung one that linked to his Samsung phone (albeit a bit dearer at about £80) and he loves it.

Other things he had - Oodie (giant oversized hoodie thing), a pc/laptop tool kit with tiny screwdrivers and things, a chocolate hamper!

looseddaughter · 10/03/2021 22:37

Thanks all. Brilliant ideas - in that he has a lot of these and does love them! He just has no interest in particular things like bags, phone covers etc- would use any as long as plain! Hates pjs and will only wear shorts. He got a stress ball he loved in his stocking and it split, so I'll replace that! And yes, may have to be something like a gaming voucher... Such an awkward age/boy!

LED lights for his bedroom? They come in strips on a self adhesive roll and are very easy to put up.

Woodlandbelle · 10/03/2021 22:41

Would something for his room work? Lights, decent reading lamp.

Lotsachocolateplease · 10/03/2021 22:45

I second LED lights! My ds14 loves his. Also we got him a hammock for the garden for his birthday which was in December, with the nicer weather coming he’s looking forward to assembling it. It was £34. From eBay

ohhmygosh · 10/03/2021 23:03

Lava lamp - Argos ?

American sweets box - not my taste, but if he's into the use I got this for a friends son .. see pic, they do diff sizes, but the box is nicely printed. No idea if he actually liked it, you don't tend to get any response from teenagers although it would be nice

Aftershave ?

ohhmygosh · 10/03/2021 23:06

Oh yes DS has a remote controlled coloured Diall LED light bulb it was from B&Q , does diff white lights and colours, moods and a colour change thing, it's a chunky shaped bulb but he's 4, so easily pleased.

Woodlandbelle · 10/03/2021 23:09

A hammock is a genius idea

MakemineaGandT · 10/03/2021 23:14

LED light strips to go around shelving or along ceiling edge? They love them!

Squish3 · 10/03/2021 23:15

@Lotsachocolateplease a hammock is an excellent idea!! I keep a list on my phone of ideas for DH for whatever occasion is next coming up and that’s going in at the top 🤣 he’ll love it!

spiderlight · 10/03/2021 23:15

Mine is the same age and also got a gaming pc for Christmas. Popular gifts from other people have been a large gaming mouse with colour changing LED edging, LED strips, Nanoleaf lights for his wall, gaming mouse (you've guessed it - light-up LED) - basically anything that changes colour! His main birthday present is a racing wheel for his driving games.

TheBlahWitchProject · 11/03/2021 08:41

If he’s into a particular game you could get a poster of it and frame it to hang on his wall (call of duty / destiny / FIFA - just google posters) I got a decent black frame from Wilkinson’s as everywhere else is shut and my 15 year old loved it

My grandson is the same age and his favourite present on his birthday this year was the mini fridge that I bought him. It cost £30 from Argos

sashh · 11/03/2021 08:59

IWOOT have some lights and lampshades that might suit, I've bout a couple for adult friends, the Tetris lamp was a hit.

A rocket book - a notebook you can erase by microwaving.

Lochmorlich · 11/03/2021 09:04

I bought my adult son this.
And he doesn't have criminal tendencies afaik!
Teens like gadgets.
