Do Sloane Rangers still exist & how to spot one in 2021?

All this press surrounding Diana at the moment got me thinking about the original Sloane Ranger type. Is that a thing of the past now & do they still exist? If so how would one spot them in 2021?!

haven't they now all become hipsters? electric scooter and silly beard and unbearably posh coffee?

titchy · 10/03/2021 22:24

Called Rahs now I think. Still work in PR or marketing though!

DramaAlpaca · 10/03/2021 22:25

They were very much an 80s thing. All cashmere jumpers, frilly blouses and pearls.

I'd have loved to be a Sloane Ranger but wasn't anywhere near posh enough Grin

Hoolihan · 10/03/2021 22:31

Yes I work with some. They live in Putney now, or even Fulham. Went to Benenden or Sherbourne, work in PR, events. Hurlingham members. Into skiing, tennis, holiday in Vale de Lobo every summer. Usually have a house in London and one in 'the country' ie Glos or rural Kent.

Hoolihan · 10/03/2021 22:32

Sherborne even!

lastqueenofscotland · 10/03/2021 22:34

Are they not the girls in schoeffel gilets, chinos and pumps?

Blimeyoreilly2020 · 10/03/2021 22:35

No, they’re in Canada Goose coats!!

What do they wear? They used to have such a uniform of upturned collars with pearls and velvet headbands. Easy to spot.

Oooh thanks for the info, I'm so out of touch but watching the Crown & everything in the press at the moment is about the royals. Diana was a fantastic ambassador for the Sloane Rangers! Are they still calling their kids impossibly posh names?

I'd love to know the answer to this too. I'm thinking it's a long sleeved shirt tucked into cigarette pants

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 10/03/2021 22:59

Sloane men tend to wear colourful trousers, often red. They pioneered the look of no socks, shoes and slightly too-short trousers but it's got popular with others now so they've probably moved on.

Sloaney teen girls have Sloane Hair. It's not a style as such, it's just long and it's there, flapping and flopping. If you live near a public school you will recognise it.

MammabearX1 · 10/03/2021 23:18

Back in the day the hair was the trademark, like Kate Middleton'... My mom used calk it "rich girl" hair, long, very thick & oh so shiny & bouncy!

They talk just like Beatrice & Eugenie on ‘the windsors’. I know one who has such a drawl that it’s actually quite hard to understand them.

Yes the York girls, I'm thinking Cressida Bónas might be a modern day sloane or possibly Keira Knightly or am I totally off the mark?

teentipans · 10/03/2021 23:29

They do exist but less of a uniform.

Sittinonthesand · 10/03/2021 23:29

Cressida - yes, Kiera K - no

Starlitexpress · 10/03/2021 23:37

Lol at previous comments, but I know one who went to Benenden and wears a Canada Goose coat to go and see the pony. Got the floppy hair and a generous allowance despite having a good job. They live among us so be afraid......very afraid as they all know each other and could take over the world if they could be bothered.

bitheby · 10/03/2021 23:43

Funnily enough, the ones I knew when I lived in London were via a work colleague who went to Benenden; and we went to the Hurlingham club for a works doGrin

They were definitely still a thing in the late 90s/ early 2000s.

ColonelCathcart · 10/03/2021 23:50

Do they still wear signet rings?

VelveteenChair · 10/03/2021 23:54

That’s the men.

The new sloanes wear expensive yoga gear and are wrapped in a Mexican poncho blanket.

Bordois · 10/03/2021 23:56

Weren't they known as "It girls" in the 90"s and early 00"s ' Tara P-T Tamara Beckwith et al.

Fairfax and favour for smart, schoeffel jumpers for pony visits.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 11/03/2021 00:36

Watch Made In Chelsea. They still exist.

I lived amongst them in Fulham for 3 years. They're an exhausting bunch.
