Favourite part of a roast dinner

For me it's stuffing. Followed closely by Yorkshire pudding.

My ideal roast dinner is 80% stuffing and puds in gravy, 20% meat and veg

What's your favourite part of a roast dinner?

I'm not big on roast potatoes. I mean I like them but I don't miss them much either.

I absolutely love honey roast parsnips. Really love Yorkshire's, stuffing and Gravy too.

But for me it has or be the pork crackling or the chicken skin. They are the only bits that make cooking a roast dinner worthwhile for me. Otherwise I would just make toad in the hole

The roast potato sandwich I have later that evening!

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 09/03/2021 23:38

The cauliflower cheese. I got my mums method, tweaked some measurements to get the sauce very thick, and go to Cheesetown in the sauce and on the top for baking. The crispy bits of burned cheese are awesome.

Thank you for this thread OP, I needed the distraction tonight!

Roast potatoes all the way. Lots of gravy is essential but not the star of the show. Beef and horseradish with yorkshire pudding is the king of roasts.

@linerforlife

I'm gobsmacked that the universal answer wouldn't be roast potatoes?!
Absolutely. End of.

Second place is the roast meat, and then third place goes to stuffing.

Scarby9 · 10/03/2021 01:54

In order:
Gravy
Stuffing
Bread sauce
Mustard / horseradish / mint sauce / cranberry sauce /redcurrant jelly ( depending on the meat
Meat
All the above in one glorious mouthful
I also love the veg.

ToadsThePeanutButterSnob · 10/03/2021 02:09

Mashed potato Smile.

Roast potatoes. Anyone who answers anything else is either lying or deluded.

LoveFall · 10/03/2021 02:28

Roast potatoes, followed closely by Yorkshire pudding.

Fifthtimelucky · 10/03/2021 08:14

The meat (unless it's pork) and roast parsnips.
I much prefer roast parsnips to potatoes.

Then there are necessary accompaniments depending on the meat:

If it's chicken/turkey then meaty stuffing and/or pigs in blankets, and bread sauce.

If it's beef, Yorkshire puddings (I hate mustard and horseradish sauce)

If it's lamb, homemade mint jelly. Definitely not mint sauce.

If it's gammon, parsley sauce.

Agree with previous poster on it being gravy. If you've got crap gravy the meal is ruined. Thus making it the most important part.

I'm now popping to Tesco for a chicken to make a roast tonight...
