Favourite part of a roast dinner

For me it's stuffing. Followed closely by Yorkshire pudding.

My ideal roast dinner is 80% stuffing and puds in gravy, 20% meat and veg

What's your favourite part of a roast dinner?

Crackling or Yorkshire pudding, with parsnips a close second.

Inextremis · 09/03/2021 20:03

The crispy bits of fat on the outside of roast beef, or lamb, or crackling on pork. Also roast potatoes, and whichever sauce (horseradish, apple, mint, cranberry etc.) goes with the roast.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 09/03/2021 20:04

Yorkshire puds
Roast potatoes
Burnt Roast parsnips
Pigs in blankets
Spring greens
Swede and carrot mash

Not fussed about the stuffing or meat unless it's meltingly tender lamb shoulder.

@Unmellowbirds

That bit at the very end, when you have about two spoonfuls of gravy left, bits and bobs of various veg and spuds, and scoop it all up together.
You are so right

This! Slow roasted shoulder of pork with the fat on... 🤤

In my defence my exh was Muslim and I was deprived of roast pork for years 😓

Yorkshire pud with a bit of french mustard and gravy, made from the meat juices. That’s the best bit defo.

justjuggling · 09/03/2021 21:09

Yorkshire puds, roast potatoes and gravy. Ooh, and stuffing. And cauliflower cheese. It is HARD to choose!

RoomAtTheEndOfTheWorld · 09/03/2021 21:14

Roast potatoes, very closely followed by gravy then Yorkshire puddings.
If it's pork then crackling probably trumps all Grin

35andThriving · 09/03/2021 21:50

Potatoes both roasted and mashed, then the stuffing. Or roast parsnips...I think the meat is the least important bit.

ummmmbop · 09/03/2021 22:08

Aaaaall of it!! I could murder a roast dinner... we only have them at the pub carvery... I miss the pub carvery ...

Eg2016 · 09/03/2021 22:11

Stuffing, especially chestnut, bacon and cranberry
Yorkshires
Meat
Roasties
Pigs in blankets
Honey roasted carrots
All the other veg
Loads of gravy
Love a roast 😋

Looseleaf · 09/03/2021 22:13

Surprised how many say roast potatoes as I get a bit bored of them! My favourite bit is either roast beef and mustard or roast lamb and mint sauce or venison and rowan jelly - I love the meat and things that go with them!

ALongHardWinter · 09/03/2021 22:15

The roast potatoes, without a doubt! Closely followed by the stuffing. Although I do love roast chicken,I could happily eat a roast dinner without it,as I love roast potatoes, stuffing, gravy and Yorkshire puddings so much.

Yes, you are correct 👏

I just opened this thread hoping to see pics of people's roast dinners. Disappointed now 😂

Druidlookingidiot · 09/03/2021 22:22

Roast potatoes but only when done right.

midsomermurderess · 09/03/2021 22:28

Exactly, roast potatoes, and lots of butter.

LarryUnderwood · 09/03/2021 22:31

Saving the crunchiest roasties and a bit of Yorkshire pudding to the end. Then squashing the potato into the gravy with a fork to make a sort of crunchy mash. Eating that then using the yorkshire to mop up the rest of the gravy. I don't do this if we have company.

LarryUnderwood · 09/03/2021 22:33

The meat is usually my least favourite bit, but you need it there to provide the overall meaty flavour and gravy. But basically yorkshire puds, roasties and gravy. They are best. Did I mention gravy? It needs to be an ocean, not a puddle. All the gravy please.

Notashandyta · 09/03/2021 22:33

The best bit is near the end whenctheres little bits left of everything and you scoop them all up onto your fork, a little bit of it all and somehow it's all mushed together. Yum!
If forced to choose tho, stuffing and roasties and yorkies and meat and sauce and veg I CANT DO IT!!

CorianderBee · 09/03/2021 22:38

A Yorkshire pudding with a roast potato and some peas and stuffing and cranberry sauce inside covered in gravy and eaten in a mouthful.

Thismummyruns · 09/03/2021 22:46

Meat especially if its lamb 😋

Sarcobaleno · 09/03/2021 22:47

A carefully balanced forkful of roast parsnip, some al dente green veg, pork and sage stuffing and bread sauce. Food of the gods

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/03/2021 22:59

Roast potatoes, with Yorkshire pudding next both with good gravy.

Downthefarm · 09/03/2021 23:10

Veg and meat. I usually skip the potatoes or have one, but we have 3 or more veg.
