‘HR will be in touch with next steps’

This was said at the end of a short 30 min first stage interview with the hiring manager. It went well and we laughed and joked and they were complementary about my CV.

Despite all this, I had a bad feeling when they said ‘HR will be in touch with next steps’. I didn’t get the opportunity to ask what those steps might be. Although the HR person said last week next stage would be meeting with the hiring director’s boss.

Am i overthinking? My gut is usually right.

It’s an utterly standard thing to say at the end of an interview

You’re overthinking. This is totally standard and is a good sign.

I think it means that the interviewer thought it went quite well and that the next steps would be second round of interviews.

Completely standard.

It possibly means “we can not be trusted to follow our own recruitment procedures so we have been asked to leave it to the professionals”

Thanks all. I really want this job so feel very nervous. I can be self defeatist.

I just think he would have said what the next stage would be...he didn’t clarify that. That’s the part I’m obsessing over!

Also my video completely failed and I couldn’t switch it on. Shall I send a note to thank him for his time, and I’ll get the video fixed. Or is that OTT?

If they were complimentary about your CV etc and you think the interview went well, don't stress about it OP!

No follow up yet. Not looking good, is it? If interested, I think HR keeps engagement going...

You’re overthinking it.

Where I work were expressly not allowed to make an offer in the interview and have to say HR will be in touch.

This normally takes a couple of days at least as I have to process interview notes, HR review, then offer gets made.

Oh I’m not at the offer stage yet

It would be next interview time / date etc

So interview was Tuesday and I haven’t heard anything all week

Guess I won’t be progressing to the next stage
