When do you think Y11's will finish term this year?

Our School won't say.
My ds has had the most awful year and I'd like (C19 permitting) to take him away for a long weekend, after he doesnt have to be in school anymore.
When is it usually please? Will it be different this year? Summer School?

If the school won’t tell you it’s because they haven’t decided yet.

Different schools could well be doing different things so I think you just need to sit tight and wait for info from the school.

There's no point current Y11's doing summer school, is there?

We've not heard yet when they're breaking up. Can't see them being there much past the whitsun holidays.

@noblegiraffe - ah, I see. Probably 2 days before with this school sadly.

I suppose the other way to look at it is: when are the final assessments likely to be done by? He will not be staying at this school after the end of this year as we are moving to Scotland so I want to be able to move him across asap so he can start the new year there (they 'go up' before end summer term in Scotland). Then he can start the School hols when they do (usually 2 weeks before England)

Teachers have to submit grades by 18th June so it’s highly likely they’ll finish before then.

ChrissyHynde · 09/03/2021 16:30

Results day is 12th August, so time needed to submit grades , checking etc , my guess mid June ?

52andblue · 09/03/2021 16:31

Thanks, @noblegiraffe.
Scottish School he is going to has end of term on 23rd June.
So, it would seem safe to book a UK mini break holiday from then on.
Supposing all is okay on the Covid front of course & its safe & legal.

My Y11 DS has been told that they're going to be given a plan next week. I assume that means revision, mini exams and end of term details. It's normal for Y11 to do work experience after exams but i guess that will be out this year.

EmmaStone · 09/03/2021 16:40

We've been told 18 June, that's the final submission day for the grades as well, so unless they've got some enrichment activities planned (and they may be scuppered by wondering what can they plan at the moment), there's not much more for them to do.

bumblingbovine49 · 09/03/2021 19:24

I've already booked a week in the UK from 19 July and my DS is in year 11. That is one week before the official summer holidays begin here . I don't have the courage to book earlier but now realise I could have booked from the 12th easily. I found anything starting after the 25th July was booked when I looked last month.

The good thing is prices will be a bit lower in late June/ early July . I'd look soon though as I think UK holiday places are very full this year !

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 09/03/2021 19:26

Grades submitted by 18th June BUT most leadership teams will want at least a week to moderate, standardise, check etc. Ours are asking for our final grades 2 weeks before which is the first day back after half term. I anticipate them leave at May half term.

WhatHaveIFound · 14/03/2021 17:18

DS told me today that they've been warned that some of their final assessments will be after the May half term. He doesn't know when the final date is yet.

Icancelledthecheque · 14/03/2021 17:23

Wish I knew too. Last year DS had finished Y11 by Easter as he was set no further work! Only optional work for kids doing A Levels but he did a vocational college course so nothing set for him or the other 50% of his year group.

Hoping DD finishes by June so she can enjoy a long summer before the leap to harder work...
