Do people know if you view Facebook page?

Only reason I'm asking is.
I recently started a new job.
I don't have my phone number or anything connected to Facebook.
Last night I had a friend suggestion and it was my team leader.
Now we live in a different city,no mutual friends,I don't have he's number and he doesn't have mine.
I don't even have my phone connected to Facebook and it's a different email address to the one I used to apply for the role.
So how did Facebook even know I knew him?
Any chance he could have viewed my page?
A bit worried work is spying

The friend suggestion was an alert to my phone and not just in the "people you may know" section

Sometimes it's the Facebook algorithm, so if you are in close proximity to someone daily or connected on the same networks, Facebook can pick that up. Facebook knows so much more than we know about our Internet history and location ware abouts.
Is your Facebook on private? If it is someone will have to add you as a friend to see what's on your profile. If it's public, than everyone can see what's on your page.
But people are curious in general and people on Facebook usually look up people they come into contact with even if they deny it.
I have a relative who was obsessively checking up on someone's fb page, the someone she was checking up on is an ICT wizz and he confronted her on it and she was horrified he got onto her 🤣. I'm still not sure how it's possible but Facebook has enormous power and knowledge based on what we look at on the Internet.

It's strange because I'm working from home.
Never actually met him apart from spoke to him on a teams meeting.

Facebook deny this but I know that if you look at somebody's page there is a good chance you will pop up in their suggested friends. I know this because my aunt's ex partner from over 30 years ago ( before email, phones etc ) popped up as a suggested friend. They have no mutual friends, live in different countries now and there is nothing else to connect them. The only explanation is that he'd looked her up.

I couldn't think of any other reason unless he looked me up.
Luckily most of my profile is private except profile pics etc

Just ignore it. I really don't want my work colleagues on FB unless we are actually friends. If he says anything just say you don't use it much or that you prefer to keep work and home life separate. Not much he can say to that.

bearfearr · 09/03/2021 11:34

He didn't send a friend request it just came through to my phone as a friend suggestion.
Made me wonder if he had viewed my page

BashfulClam · 09/03/2021 13:04

I keep my page private and my name is slightly changed so I am not easily searchable. However I do know employers will look for people and my lady manager admitted to it ‘I’m not going to employ someone without having checked their Facebook if I can!’ He wanted to see people’s true characters

3babylady · 09/03/2021 13:10

I'm not on Facebook but I do know that If you search people on Instagram they pop up in your people you may know section, entirely possible he has searched you as Facebook owns Instagram and I assume algorithms aren't that different,
