No idea why I am asked to have the vaccine now

This is so odd.
I received a text from my GP asking me to book my vaccine jab. I checked on the NHS website (not clicking on the link from the SMS thinking it might be a spam), entered my NDS number and was able to book an appointment for tomorrow!

I am 38, no health issues, not a carer, not in healthcare, not even a key worker.

I called my GP practice to ask what the reason was. The lady on the phone checked, seemed surprised, asked for my birth year again and finally said that there doesn't seem to be any reason... awkward pause... I guess now that it is booked you might as well go.

Did this happen to anyone else?

There have been a few threads on this. Seems some areas are getting through them quicker than others

Take it!

Where do you live? I know a few people in their 30s who have been asked in London, I think some areas are more ahead than others.

BIWI · 08/03/2021 14:56

DH and I were called a lot earlier than we were expecting too - just seems like our local surgery was getting through their lists quickly!

Hurray! (For us and for you Smile)

Have you throughly checked the group 6 criteria?
Some I know had things that put them in that group but they had no idea until called up.

There's been a lot if vaccine refusal in some areas which means they've moved ahead. Might that apply where you live?

I’ve seen a couple of friends in their 30s/40s called in apparently because they suffered with gestational diabetes during pregnancy despite having no other health issues and no continuing issue with diabetes.

starbrightstarlight8888 · 08/03/2021 14:57

Yep me too! I'm in my 30s and have my vaccine this week. No idea why. No health conditions.

pointythings · 08/03/2021 15:17

It could be historical gestational diabetes on your record - that's apparently quite common. Or your area might just not have a lot of older folk. Go and get the jab and be happy!

peak2021 · 08/03/2021 15:19

Take up the offer, please go. Just don't go crowing about it to someone who may think it's 'sooo unfair'.

HollowTalk · 08/03/2021 15:20

My son is 29 and his London surgery contacted him to book in for his jab. His only health problem is a nut allergy.

LovelyLovelyWarmCoffee · 08/03/2021 16:05

Oh yes, I’ll take it, booked for tomorrow!

I’m definitely not in group 6, the GP confirmed it.
And I don’t think it is because they are making so much progress, otherwise my DH (older, same GP, same last name) would have been called before me.
No diabetes during pregnancy, no allergies, no asthma. Never hospitalized except when I gave birth.
I live in SW11

I’m not complaining though! I just live a boring life at the moment so am enjoying the mystery.

Gestational diabetes is a strong indicator of future type 2 diabetes and you can have it for years without being diagnosed, and no you don't need to be obese to get it.

cwtchesandprosecco · 08/03/2021 16:45

I also got a call on a Friday afternoon asking me to come in. I’m nearly 30, fit and healthy so initially said I’d wait, but they said that is was going in the bin if not used that day so I may as well get it. So I did Smile

Which one did you have? Did you have any side effects?
ummmmbop · 08/03/2021 20:07

Yes this happened to my 38 year old very healthy brother... the weird thing being our 59 year old mother is registered at the same GP and lives in the same town yet hasn't had an appointment... no idea why brother got an appointment 🤷‍♀️

CabernetSoWhat · 08/03/2021 20:10

This happened to me, but when I phoned the GP to query it, they cancelled my appointment.

partyatthepalace · 08/03/2021 20:22

It’s a mass vaccination programme. Some people get called early. Just take it - they are vaxing millions, questioning it just slows the system down.

OverTheRubicon · 08/03/2021 20:25

My friend had the same. 31, very healthy and she was mystified, especially as even 50-somethings in our area aren't done. I'd wondered if she had a condition that she was keeping quiet (but didn't ask, as thought she'd tell if she wanted to), but guess it's just that weird blips happen!

Moominmamma5 · 09/03/2021 10:24

I have also been prompted to book a jab, no idea why, 41 and have no health conditions. I live with ECV dh though but not a carer. I was thinking of asking GP why but maybe not if they cancel my appointment.
