So it's not until 2023 so hopefully Covid will not be a factor.
I will be 40 and my boys 16 and 13 in the same year. We want to go on a lovely holiday to celebrate. It would have to be in August due to DS's sports commitments.
We don't mind lazing by the pool but couldn't do it every day of the holiday so places of interest/activities are required or indeed not a pool holiday at all is also fine.
Budget £5000 absolute maximum for 4 people.

Croatia or Greece? Good options for sightseeing and beach/pool. Also watersports if your DSs are into those. You could split the holiday and have part city/sightseeing (Athens/Dubrovnik or similar) and part beach/pool based.

Having said that, August in the Med is really hot so if you’d prefer more activities/sightseeing than beach and pool, you may be better off somewhere further north. You could look at holidays in the Alps or around the Italian lakes - lots of outdoor activities to do and really beautiful scenery. I would hire somewhere self catering and a car and reckon on eating out/in depending on how your budget is going!

We went to Thailand (last minute) in July/August when the youngest was 13. Mix of pool, beach and activities (sea canoeing, trips etc.). Had a great time, but worked out that, for our taste, we got better Thai food (spicier) at home!
We went to Koh Lanta in the Andaman Sea.
