Basically that. I once had a reaction to Penicillin. Was told it was an allergic reaction. Never thought much about it as it was years ago. But just had the thought can I still have the covid jab?
Anyone know. Booked for next Tuesday

Yes my teenager is allergic and had hers and was fine

twinkletoedelephant · 07/03/2021 21:47

I asked as I get a nasty rash from penicillin the nurse I saw said absolutely fine. Had jab was fine after

Puffler · 07/03/2021 21:48

Yes. You can have either.

I’m allergic to penicillin and had the AZ, a friend who is allergic had Pfizer.

I was advised not to have Pfizer due to other allergies.

There is no penicillin in a virus vaccine.

8090sTv · 07/03/2021 21:48

Yes. I got hives from penicillin, told them and it was fine.

sharond101 · 07/03/2021 21:48

Yes 100%

Duckyneedsaclean · 07/03/2021 21:49

Yes no issues.

actionstationsplease · 07/03/2021 21:51

I was advised the AZ was better for people who have severe allergies to things, including penicillin. Apparently risk of reaction with the Pfizer is very small though.

Tequilasun · 07/03/2021 21:54

Brilliant, thanks, that puts my mind to rest

Should be OK. I am allergic to Penicillins and have the linked allergy to Cephalosporins as well, and a few other random things. I had the AZ but had to stay in the waiting room for 15 minutes afterwards.

NoseOfJericho · 07/03/2021 22:18

I don't do well on penicillin, I had Pfizer and was fine. Had to wait 15 minutes before I could leave but a lot of people were waiting so it may have been the way they did it.

PurpleSproutingSomething · 07/03/2021 22:19

I'm allergic to penicillin and a whole host of other things (carry epi-pens) I had the Pfizer and no allergic reaction.

FrenchyQ · 07/03/2021 22:21

My mum was advised to have the astra zeneca one due to a severe allergy to penicillin. (she had no side effects whatsoever).

greengrey · 07/03/2021 22:24

Yes I'm allergic to it and had Pfizer,

NeedWineNow · 07/03/2021 22:54

Thank God for this thread. I've booked my vaccine but it suddenly occurred to me today that maybe I should ring the doctor to check as I'm also allergic to penicillin. I only get a rash with it so nothing too serious, but you've put my mind at rest - thank you.

FoxyTheFox · 07/03/2021 23:06

They did a check before the jab where they asked if there were any allergies. I have an anaphylaxis allergy (not to penicillin) so I got given a red sticky dot on my t-shirt and was put into the AZ queue, I also had to wait the full 15 mins in the observation area whereas other people were allowed to leave after 5.

trunumber · 07/03/2021 23:08

Yes, there is no penicillin in the vaccine (I know someone severely allergic so researched it for them, Pzifer specifically published that it was fine and I don't think there was ever a concern for AZ)
