Google Maps making me feel sick

I have a Google phone. There was an update recently and the Maps app has changed. Instead of showing you a flat 2D map, it moves and expands as you scroll (hard to describe) giving a sort of 3D effect.

I'm finding it almost impossible to use - very confusing and the motion element is genuinely making me feel sick!

Has anyone got any idea if I can switch this view off? Or what I would Google to find out? I've tried searching for it using the terms I've used above but I am guessing there's probably a better techy description.

Look at the top right of the screen - there should be a '2D' button there. If not, go to wherever on your display the choice between map/satellite etc is and expand the menu. It's in there

Thanks Glacinda. I have tried toggling that setting on and off but it makes no difference. I think that might be a clue to what's wrong.

Thank goodness for teenagers, my son has fixed it by randomly changing a few settings then putting them back.
