Making friends if you are shy...

I don't have very many friends, and my good group of friends have moved abroad for jobs.

I'm really, really shy and lockdown has unfortunately made it much worse. I'm also not very "in to" cool stuff - don't really do celebs and latest fame gossip at all.

Being in a room full of people or a big group is my worst nightmare. I also really hate zoom, MS Teams, etc.

And, I seem to have a wonderful habit of always saying the wrong thing, but never understanding why it is the wrong thing to say, so it's not something I can correct.

(Same applies for dating if anyone has tips on that please)

Do you have time to volunteer? It’s a good way to meet people and to begin with you’ll be talking about the task at hand, so you’ve got an instant topic of conversation.

I also struggle in large groups.

This would need to be post lockdown but what about joining an activity or by doing a course that's done in small groups.

Or volunteering in some way.

At least you know you've got one thing in common to talk about to the people around you.
