This isn't a royal family bashing thread..just interested to know how people would vote once the Queen has died and the was a vote on whether to keep the royal family or not.. a simple yes ( to keep ) or no.

It would cost us as much, if not more, to have elected representatives (which we would have to have) and the Royal Family are a HUGE tourism pull.

No idea why people think we'd be better off without them unless they don't understand those two facts.

Yes. I am old enough to remember Oliver Cromwell.

Grin Yes, he was a barrel of laughs.

I like the system im France but I would want laicity of the state too.

In Spain and the Netherlands they seem to manage to have a non controversial RF, a lot of whom have normal jobs, it seems. I think Prince William could potentially modernise this one similarly.

I would want to know more about what the alternative would entail. After all, Hitler was head of state. I would also not want it decided by a referendum, which were were 'a key instrument in destroying parliamentary democracy in the Weimar Republic and ultimately allowed Hitler to come to power.' I prefer things to be decided by parliamentary democracy. Why vote otherwise?

Do tell why it would cost more to have a single, fixed-term elected HoS on a top civil servant’s salary with the use of a house, car, plane, security staff and advisers for the term of office. If the cost of an election is concerning, peg it to another recurrent vote.

And the various palaces can continue to be a huge tourist pull. Versailles was still pulling the hordes in last time I was there.
