This isn't a royal family bashing thread..just interested to know how people would vote once the Queen has died and the was a vote on whether to keep the royal family or not.. a simple yes ( to keep ) or no.

Well I hope your right. I hope it’ll be continuation of the gradual slipping of relevance but I doubt it, and I still think a referendum would be decisive. Especially as this touches on religion and belief. I’m not religious myself but I understand religion is important to people with a faith and I’m not sure that (what some might see as) an arbitrary decision in a referendum would change their belief. Thus ‘the monarchy’ would still have a following. Fortunately a referendum on this seems vanishingly unlikely 😅 as an aside, I’m not sure why you consider loyalty to the monarchy a niche or minority interest with all the problems going on in Northern Ireland with the border/s or lack thereof.

Divisive not decisive

It won’t be the same once Philip and the Queen are gone. However at the moment I think the monarchy is still a positive thing for the UK even with all scandals. Once it becomes just a burden I think we will have to make a decision whether to continue with it. It’s yes from me at the moment at least.

Time it right in relation to the Queen's death and Charles's succession/coronation, and one minor gaffe or revelation about some new and mildly unsavoury aspect of his past, or his finances, or Prince Andrew's alleged sex with a trafficked underage girl to come back into the headlines because he's subpoenaed or charged,...

Once the Queen dies, Charles will
fire, exile and/or demote Andrew so fast it will make our collective heads spin. He won’t get dragged down by him. I wonder where he will put him?

I mean, I’d love a republic, but I doubt Charles will allow his brother to be the catalyst.

I think its image is taking one of the biggest poundings for a long while. Probably since Diana died.

Why do you think it's a positive?

oscarandelliesdad · 07/03/2021 20:49

Nope

stairway · 07/03/2021 21:43

CathyorClaire I think it is probably the Queen that garners respect across the globe. Whenever she goes I think the monarchy will really be in trouble. Charles isn’t the prat he used to be but I’m not sure he can pull it off.

Your ‘insights’ are deeply odd. Do you imagine NI to be a matter of the Queen vs the Pope, two figureheads at loggerheads, or something equally bizarrely ill-informed?

I have asked MNHQ to enable the voting thingy on this thread (someone said it may have to be moved to AIBU for that to happen.
I won't have to stay up overnight hand counting them! 🤣🤣
